Do FF XIV Players Keep Up With AAA Releases?

Something I never understood is how do people can ply the same game for very long periods of time or not pay attention to upcoming ones.
Gaming is all about technology, and I think new games constantly try to find new ways to impress the players. So, if someone is a gamer, not keeping up with new releases just seems like a waste to me.

Pay attention? sure. Play? ... naw man. I only got so much time a day to play games and I tend to stick with games I like.

I will definitely TRY new games but I have no inclination to play a new game if the ones I'm playing with now are still entertaining.

I am concurrently playing FFXIV, Overwatch, PSO2 (and NGS), slime rancher, MHW:iceborne, and BDO. ... I am not lacking for entertainment atm.

I play a lot of games years after they come out so I can buy them cheap. MMO expansions are the only games I get new.

Exceptions are new entries to old, long dormant franchises that I adore if they get good reviews. When Devil May Cry 5 was well received that was a day one purchase for me. If Baldur's Gate III ends up being good it will be too.

Konami could get money from me with a Suikoden VI but that will never happen.

Oddly enough I tend to struggle against Potemkin, but I also haven't fought alot of him. I spend most my time bullying Faust and Zato.

My gosh a good Ram can make any Zato crumple like a wet sack~

I like to be aware of games just to know what cool things are being done, not enough time to play all the cool games out there... but just thinking about them is fun to me. May be way my post count is so inflated, as thinking about games, even if not playing them, is fun, where here is clearly a dev team that cares, imo listens to feedback, generally inspiring story, an enjoyable and also easy to parse out activity (write snippets over time, compile, post) unlike saying "okay I've got 15 minutes, just enough time to catch one fish before I have to go" lol. /cry

Also sometimes I don't have the right console :3. . Had one of those legacy can emulate PS3s, was thinking of buying a PS4 but thought "meh I'll wait for PS5" and spent it on a fairly hefty PC upgrade. . oh and. . PS5's are myths, meanwhile microsoft is being a bro and letting my PC solve most of my answers. I've still not played Bloodborne and that hurts me lol.

Since we're mentioning games to remake / continue I want to put a vote in for Legacy of Kain / Soul Reaver.

In general I know the types of games I like and keep an eye out; but sometimes I see something new and will give it a go. Triple A release or no; especially since it seems like most major developers are making garbage to make money as quick as possible rather than a good product. Even a few games in recent years I enjoyed get "balanced" into a bad state.... *cough* Overwatch *cough*

Resident Evil Village was pretty good, i played the crap out of that at launch.

NieR Replicant was about as good as I expected it to be, though I struggled with it since it's basically a eye-water-producing-machine.

I still haven't made much progress in PSO2 New Genesis, it's still in dire need of a lot of quality of life and substantive content.

Days Gone PC version is pretty fun, I haven't even finished it yet; it's such a massive game.

Black Desert Online is slowly improving now that the Western service is in the hands of it's creators and out of the grubby hands of Kakao/Daum; though despite BDO being out for as long as it has been, there are still so much work that the game needs to be something truly special like FFXIV; but sadly, PA's focus is pretty much on their next big mega project Crimson Desert.

The Lost Ark technical Alpha was fun.

I wanted to try out Scarlet Nexus, but after waiting on some reviews it's not the type of game i thought it would be, as i was hoping it would have some online/multiplayer focused content similar to what they did with the GodEater series.

All that's left now for this year is the new "Tales of" game .....which might actually be a completely different game from what folks are used to.

Something weird is going on with the Japanese RPG genre, where there is a heavy focus on post-apocalyptic/gothic horror/Sci-fi elements and action-oriented combat, and it's making me seriously miss the whole high fantasy angle with the traditional party-based rpg elements.

but I've recently been playing Guilty gear strive and Digimon cyber sleuth
also got Sekiro and DUSK on steam sale
pretty excited for SMT and pokemon remakes.

I usually play games I want when they release. I've played through XV, VIIR, Cold steel 1-4, trails in the sky 1-3, R&C, some of Replicant, need to get around to that, a few other games, and also play Elite: Dangerous.

Its EASY to find time to play other games and still put a ton of time into XIV.

Also work full time and am back in school for a BAS.

Wow. I envy you and your energy. I have Ankylosing Spondylitis which severely saps my energy and ability to enjoy life but even back in my teens I barely have energy to do what you do
