Do FF XIV Players Keep Up With AAA Releases?

Finished Death Stranding...that game transformed me!

Describing death stranding to people is an experience with people eyes getting wider and more confused the longer you describe it lol, but I also quite liked the game.

By the end my map was one giant zipline though, who needs vehicles? I will zipline it to you .

In general it'd be nice to play a good vampire / wraith game, though those games were particularly fun at the time I played them - would be cool to see them re-realized now.

PS5 isn't that hard to find if you want one.

I want one in so much that I go online and I buy it. I've no interest hitting refresh, going to multiple stores, etc.

Not the desire to work to pay Sony. Once it's available on the whim that I check, is when I'll probably get one.

Don't you know not only do you need to work for the money that you use to represent desire, but you also have to work to give them the cash!?!

Want = spending my time (cash) to purchase something because it's interesting
Need = figuring out anyway possible to obtain

I mean, you can report me if you want, but I haven't said anything report worthy. We were also on topic. PS5 has been a current release for months now.

Honestly, not sure what you're talking about. Games keep getting better. There was no middle market during PS2-PS3 generations. DLC aren't "poor/lazy trends", they are a necessity unless you want to pay 100$ per game and "have all content" and cutting-edge technology.

Games have been getting better, it's just player standards have increased (rightfully so). Gameplay is usually much better across the board for newer games, the biggest problem with games nowadays is that - generally - creativity (passion?), depth, and writing has suffered - at least where AAA games are concerned. On top of that, many games are rushed out of the gate in an unfinished state (to meet a deadline), and/or are subject to very shady advertising. Obfuscating what the gameplay experience actually is like. For example: Cyberpunk 2077 - I actually thought the game was 'fun', but it wasn't what I was expecting at all. A decent action-adventure shooter (with many broken systems), but it definitely was not the 'RPG' it was touted to be. All that being said, generally many people look to have nostalgia goggles on when talking about older games, it's not as if games back in the day didn't have their own share of problems.

I actually like DLC, and am disappointed when games don't have any, with a caveat: I like quality DLC; I like games I enjoy to have continued support, and new content. Related to this, I have accepted that DLC or cash shops are an inescapable reality in today's gaming climate. People can kick and scream all they want about DLC or cash shops, but they aren't going away as long as there are whales out there paying for these kind of items. In fact, many players probably should be thanking the whales for allowing games to be kept updated and afloat. However, many publishers/devs go overboard with this. Such as releasing an unfinished product, and "finishing" it through a hundred (or hundreds) of dollars worth of DLC. 'Pay for Convenience' - which includes many (most?) mmorpgs - these games are designed from the ground up to be tedious, and the developers love saying it's "not pay to win", but I think this is just as bad a practice. Loot boxes with horrific drop %, even worse: "limited time" loot boxes (ESO). Even worse is not only utilizing these sort of microtransaction practices, is the publisher/devs not putting profits earned back into the game - which seems to happen quite often in the 'free to play' market.

Games like FFXIV have a fairly out of the way cash shop, their website is pretty archaic though. I am not bothered every single time I log-in with a popup showing this week's or today's "deals", I am not bothered by a daily log-in "reward", and there really isn't anything gameplay disrupting in the cash shop itself. Though, the argument is made on occasion that the outfits in the mogstation should be available in-game since "we pay a sub already!", or if there was no mogstation then the outfits would have been in the game otherwise. I disagree with these arguments, but I digress. As I've said before (but didn't go into detail here), SE has done this aspect fairly well, considering.

I'm sorry, but this isn't what I meant AT ALL. I didn't mean 'representation' and 'diversity' at the cost of writing, nor was I referring to 'inclusion', or specifically modern politics in games. In fact, I wasn't even thinking about it. Nor have I even played (or watched a playthrough of) The Last of Us 1 or 2, and I will not make an argument about either of them unless I have personally played them and can actually give an objective opinion, or review on the games. For that matter, I have disagreed many times when people have referenced "forced diversity or forced inclusion" - I have a mind of my own. A lot of the time I think it's done just to stir up outrage from one side, and in many cases clicks or views. I do not think games with female leads, are 'forced'.. I am playing a female right now, this is my FFXIV lead.. Anyway, I do not want to get into this sort of argument on the FFXIV forums of all places, this is DEFINITELY not the place for it, so I digress.

When I am referring to creativity (or passion), I meant the sheer wonder of the worlds or lore made. Character's - generally - had more depth, many of the older games depth was actually their writing after all. Games back then were also made to make a profit, yes, but I feel like nowadays making a profit has overtaken the actual 'art' of making a video game in many cases.

Also, FFXIV is one of the only Japanese games I play. I do not have much context on Japanese games. I cannot give a proper opinion on them. If we are still talking about FFXIV in this thread, I could have gone into more detail what I think of it in comparison to other games, but that's it.

I should have been more specific, there are - in fact - many games that are finished through DLCs, for example take a look at the Paradox catalogue. I'm not exactly sure what you are even referring to here with "the updates are free", yes some games have free updates, not every game has free updates.. The Witcher 3 specifically? I am speaking generally (as I outlined several times in my post).
