Do FF XIV Players Keep Up With AAA Releases?

I hardly buy new games nowadays. Only upcoming games I'll buy will be the Trails games, FF16, and maybe the odd PC port of a JRPG like Sakuna or Super Robot Wars. I haven't bought a Western AAA game in a decade. Only upcoming one that vaguely appeals to me is the Avatar game by Ubisoft.

I keep up with game releases.

Not always AAA. A lot of AAA titles just don't appeal to me. Like any mainline FF since XIII, Marvel's Avengers, The Last of Us, RE8, etc. I'm not interested in modern shooters, and usually first-person view is an immediate turn-off so I avoid a lot of western games.

is it hard to say - "There is no games currently for my preference" instead of cosplaying pseudo elitist with high taste?

Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart 100% first play through, working on hardest difficulty for second

The Last of Us Part 2 played through x2 (once when it came out, and again after ps5 enhancement.

Replayed uncharted 4 because it's amazing (it's only 10 hours long)

Mass Effect Legendary edition 40 hours on mass effect 1 so far (play it here and there)

FF7 remake finished the PS5 version already (third playthrough)

Finished Death Stranding...that game transformed me!

Only game I could not finish was Ghosts of Tsushima, I started it at the worst time when bozja came out. Now the directors cut is coming out....Still an amazing game.

And I still have over 3400 hours on FFXIV all the way back from 2013. FXIV respects your time and allows gamers to invest in other things.

I can't wait for Elden Ring, Shin Megami Tensei 5, Digimon Survive, Back for Blood, Dragon Age 4. As much as I love XIV, it doesnt have enough replayable content for me, Or at least systems I would enjoy replaying more atm.

I keep up with plenty of releases- I'm going to start playing Nioh 2 soon (I love Souls games), Scarlet Nexus when I can, Elden Ring of course.

FFXVI interests me, might grab the FF1-6 pixel collection to play the ones I haven't.

There's some I'm less excited for like Dragon Age 4, Mass Effect 4- because EA is not reliable though I liked the games they used to make, if it were old Bioware I'd be way more excited, but many AAA companies are deserving of the disgust they get.

But, when we talk about AAA and we're looking at EA, ActiBlizz, Ubisoft, Naughty Dog, Bethesda- of course it's hard to be excited. They're chasing audiences that aren't gamers- they're chasing social points on twitter and the wallets of gamblers, they're making intentionally bad games and having you open your wallet to 'save time'. I'm about as excited about one of their games as I would be if a nearby casino said they were bringing out a new theme of slot machine, and I'm not interested in the twitter opinions of companies that openly abuse their employees, happily support exploiting addicts and are generally the worst people to be lecturing others.

I want gaming companies who are excited about making games, and will give my money to people who want to entertain me.

The only excellent game that came out in the last 5 years was God of War PS4, let's be real.

Everything else either was merely good/mediocre or had a massive flaw.

It's not bad to have high standards. That being said JRPGs/anime games area pretty much all mediocre, which I agree. JRPG is basically a dead genre at this point.

The weeb games pretty much all have bad gameplay but have an anime style/story that hooks the weebs. FF14 included (gameplay has gotten worse), but at least the raids are still decent.

It's more so to do with that lack of variety in releases. These days we basically have AAA and indies, whereas a generation or so ago we had more of a middle market aswell. This lack of a market combined with poor/lazy trends in game design have led to a lot of stagnation in recent years.
