Gambling is not always gambling. In a game where you don't lose real money it's not considered a problem. If we could bet crysta it would be a different thing though ;D

Subscription game = card info = age verification. Just add a tick box that says 'I am paying for someone below 18 years of age' and you'll screen 75-80% of under age from accessing an age gated server - not saying it's a good idea just saying it's not impossible.

It'd be nice to have a Mature+RP server, but not going to happen (as some here demonstrated, they're too offended by it considering maturity is being able to tolerate the things most offensive to the self).

(Besides, the M+ rating would only bring in more subscriptions.)

The bigger question is: What exactly do you want in this 18+ area? Do you want some weird roegadyn/lalafell sex club or just some bars and alcohol effects? Or do you just want an 18+ server offered?

Personally, I don't mind playing with all ages, as others have said, the children tend to be more polite and better community gamers than some of the adults. And while, yes, SE could probably set it up that they could 'verify' accounts for age purposes, it still doesn't prevent all kiddos from staying out of 18+ zones nor does it account for discrepancies between countries in what is and isn't age appropriate. Also, it just seems to me like a giant headache the game and SE doesn't need for a little alternate content.

However, there are ways they can add more 'adult' content that still are inclusive (the drunk, blurry screen, lower mob listed levels for example). Any 'adult' content that can still be seen and played by all ages, might worth looking into at some point. Especially if they can do it in a fun way...and not just 'add more cleavage'. Although again, I would expect since this is an MMO, for SE to keep any adult content more muted as you are playing with real-time and real people and, well it could get a little creepy depending on what the content was for other gamers. As a girl gamer, I really DON'T wanna know what's in your pocket. :P

That being said, I don't know about your NPC buddy...but mine is VERY suggestive...and we're both girls...so the content is already in there.

and besides what would be the difference from an RP server, and a Mature+RP server? Other then the obvious, in which this game does not need.

Most people who play ffxi and now playing FFXIV are 18+ now when i join ffxi i was 13years old and it was my first mmo. I don't think a world with +18 would never happen sorry ;(

no, Crysta still has to be bought, it's a simple process as far as any online checkout is concerned to verify age as an item is payed for, they just need to flag the age of the purchaser against the amount of Crysta that person has in their database. Someone already has crysta banked? They wouldn't be the first site to require a small purchase or registered credit card information to prove age.

It wouldn't be perfect, no system is, I'm just saying it's possible - and I reiterate, I am not for the idea of an age restricted server I'm just pointing out it is possible from a technical standpoint.
