I guess I just really wished they would have gone with something else, like with the airship or some sort of vehicle idea as it sound a heck of fun and more authentic to the FF experience. BTW I also posted this is my last thing and very clearly stated how unrealistic it would be to change it.
Pretty sure it's because people don't know how they work exactly and because they're limited and I don't think it's as simple as just picking one up then bringing it to the enemies base.

Also according to the wiki in regards to the lore teleporting around is supposed to actually take a toll on you especially over longer distances so you'd most likely just teleport to your doom.
Which is why there's a cooldown on Return I'd imagine, but as far as just teleporting around casually that's just a gameplay thing.
But how much do you actually teleport around?
Adding a cooldown to teleport wouldn't really change anything other than to punish people for missclicks.

But in terms of the lore the Aetheryte teleporting is a thing and it still makes sense why it wouldn't be abused.
Apparently you can even be permanently messed up if you abuse teleporting in the lore.

Airships and vehicles still make sense too because of how limited teleporting is, it's just from point A to point B to specific locations.

@OP I agree with several of your points. However, you're best off looking into a game like Pantheon or Ashes of Creation if you're looking for a more classic type of MMO. Pantheon's design philosophy in particular aligns to a lot of the points you mention.

I'm keeping a close eye on those and a few others (e.g. Riot's future MMO, Blue Protocol.) Unfortunately, it is a waiting game for these to release and see if they do well.

I have to agree that when it comes to ability design and creativity, compared to WoW, this is a little on the tepid side. As much as I like BLM, WoW's mage has many more fun abilities and utility spells, and you can also get a better sense of how the class functions in combat, with illusions, snares, etc. to fend off adversaries.

Or doesn't, given how badly this game has implemented it.

There's several trolls on here making similar threads, and in addition, some people think any criticism of the game is "trolling", particularly when it comes down to design preferences. I wouldn't pay much heed to it.

well, for your unfun level 20 dungeons...

    open duty funder (U)
click on the gear in the top left
select Limited Leveling Roulette if you are the leader

the roulette chosen should be within 8 levels of the lowest team member

yes, not having your full kit at 80 is inconvenient, but have to remember, the game is also not entirely about you and what you want.
wandering Statasha with your full kit is fun... maybe once, and certainly is no challenge
but if you are doing a leveling at 79, chances are you are doing it for the rewards not much else. the xp rewards are boosted for those of a higher level so... its a trade off.

Yes glad you agree. Still I really loved how in FF7 for example you had Cid's airship.

Again probably won't change, if they could just focus on making combat more exciting and meaningful and movement more responsive would be awesome.

Totally unrelated but I just now remembered playing Xenogears back in the day and loved how they had Bart's submarine and later on the airship, and that's how you'd travel the world.

If you follow the story, there is a point where Y'shtola goes into that, about attunement and the aetherstream.

it takes a prodigious amount of power to just pop in to a place without attunement and isnt like just walking through a door

Yes glad you agree on some of my points. I really wish they would be a bit adventurous with game design and give us better abilities, more fun, rewarding, useful abilities. I'm also keeping a close eye on Pantheon and it was looking really great but sadly it's still in some alpha or beta stage with no word on the release last I checked. So of all the current and soon to be released MMOs I think this has the most potential, which is why I'm taking the time to post about it and hopefully something might get picked up and worked on.

A pre-alpha. The game is at least a few years off, arguably the longest off of any of the games I mentioned... but also the one I am most looking forward to based on what I am hearing from the devs. It underwent a rocky development history and shifted course a couple of years ago, so it should be smoother sailing now.

    It's the first of those.

But more so than an inconvenience, it's like a slap in the face. All that work you put into leveling your character and if you wanna go back and revisit a dungeon you are leveled back down... it's the opposite of progress. They are doing this to make sure the game is balanced and for the benefit of new players.

Sorry but didn't really understand your other points.

Yea they really sold me on this game when they introduced it, but it's a long ways off... I wish more game developers took their example but I think we're the minority hehe. I'll gladly pay a higher monthly subscription for something like that today!
