It's a pity if you have this giant virtual world and you reduce it to teleportation roads. Why even have a 'world' then? But that's just me. ^^
Because anima was a hypertrash limitation on teleports and walking everywhere when you just wanted to deliver a letter to and from an npc sounded better on paper than it did in practice.

Not only are cheap teleports a vast improvement, black screens to transition between zones are a godsend.

Right, each game is different. Never try to compare or complain about how one game doesn't play like the other. If you like what something else has to offer, play it. Just saying. [/quote]

These games when I first started to play them were magic, an unexplored virtual world, the immersion with the exploration and the consequences of going down a dungeon unprepared with whatever party you wanted and with ZERO loading (one seamless experience), the choices that you were free to make, it all had meaning.
Are you sure you played the games you mentioned? Player actions never change the story or anything. You'll get different scripts, which you even see here in FFXIV, which is why so many like to play a 2nd character or will go back to do New Game+. If you're looking at wanting to think of before queue system, you can always form a premade party using Party Finder and go that way. The consequences for unpreparedness exist too. If you don't know mechanics, aren't geared right, or whatever else you'll do very little damage and may die. If you're really horrible, players may call you out on it either ditch the group or kick you for it.

Another example, the black mage just casts fire, thunder, ice, and have ONE crowd control ability, sleep, that is never used... for anything! It could potentially be really fun for crowd controlling pulls, giving the black mage a more unique roll but nope. The deep dungeon has an item that turns everything into a frog... why doesn't the black mage have this?
    (1) Black Mage casts all the different Fire, Thunder, and Blizzard attacks but then also has Despair, Scathe, Flare, Foul, and Xenoglossy to be able to use. So it's a lot more to be able to do. Granted, players try to limit each other by claiming a proper rotation based on what they think they've found has the higher dps, but that's a different argument.

    (2) As to crowd control, dunno what to tell you. There are various stuns and other forms of CC that each job gets, but they have made it that it's not common and we players have long disregarded them. Again, it's the world building they've done to where you have to be more responsive and on your toes. It's not that weak type of game like WoW where you could CC everything and fight one at a time. You have to be more aware and react much better than in there.

Why does the warrior of light feel so weak!
Well, various ways to talk on this, but it's hard to talk without spoilers. Main idea is we're not all powerful gods that can destroy everyone right away. It's all about working together with everyone and struggling through. You'll see in the story we are defeated several times and always require help. But it's in that struggle that we become tough. Yet regardless of what you're doing, you're just one person. In terms of gameplay, we all are pretty darn tough. If you're weak or think you're weak, I'd surmise either you're really hoping this is too much like other games OR you're just doing something completely wrong and might want to get help learning how to play.

These games when I first started to play them were magic, an unexplored virtual world, the immersion with the exploration and the consequences of going down a dungeon unprepared with whatever party you wanted and with ZERO loading (one seamless experience), the choices that you were free to make, it all had meaning.

FFXIV ARR on the other hand, gives you almost no choice in anything, and thus has never had that magic. Perhaps it doesn't want to and perhaps it will never go down that path of the classical MMO which I and a couple of other unique souls crave, but I guess that's something that unfortunately we'll have to live with.

So at least let's just get some things right with the current system. The immersion breaking ability to switch out classes in an instant, even though this is part of the FF classical way of having and managing your class, is incredibly immersion breaking, or the quick teleportation that just always has me asking myself, "just sneak in and place a teleportation thingy and teleport into the enemies' base and presto", or the incredibly ridiculous way the characters are always skating around with their little animation lock, or the way in which all classes are 100% exactly the same and offer no variation, no uniqueness, minus the cosmetics, or the fact that not a single ability in the game makes you feel powerful nor special.

I keep coming back to FFXIV ARR, and I really want this game to shine, because quite frankly, not only am I an MMO fan, but a FF fan as well.

So with that out of the way here is a list of things I would really hope they get worked on sometime in the future.
It will take a while to get there.
