lso I've seen many posts from people like you, who dont agree with him on things or dont even like him, but still dont think harassing him is okay to do.

Now, I'm not gonna say that, but I do just wanna point out a couple things I heard very VERY often within the community.

All of WoW's community is toxic
None of FFXIV's community is toxic.

I have .. never heard someone say nobody in FFXIV is toxic.
I have heard people say that FFXIV has less toxicity. I have heard people say "Isn't as toxic as..nameagame". I have even heard "FFXIV has the best community" unironically.

Never heard someone completely disavow ANY toxicity in the game.

I have even heard people claim all of WoW is toxic, so there's that. But .. never "Nobody in FFXIV is toxic".

That line I've only heard from people claiming that people have said it and then pushing "GCBTW" memes.

If there's any lesson I want learned from this, it's to stop pretending that there isn't toxic people in any setting of anything, and also to stop pretending that everyone in said setting is a problem because of a smaller group.

Like, for me, I get this is anecdotal evidence, but I wasn't encountering all these super toxic wow players while I'm in shadowlands. I played the race that "always gets harassed" on a spec that "is auto kick for non-meta" and didn't encounter these issues, and I shared server with a good chunk of the people saying that, the most toxic thing I think happened was when I, ME, was getting too heated in a raid team and made people not wanna come, and they told me it isn't cool. Sounds like a community to me that DOESN'T promote toxicity, let alone is made of a ton of them.

Yet on FFXIV, I've had quite a few cases occur, some really really nasty ones, and they sit. You have the simple easy to do and forget ones like telling me to go die in a ditch or get cancer, and then you got some of the more severe like calling me a groomer for my choice of race, or harassing people I like to not talk to me anymore. It's terrifying what people will do here, specially if they can do it off game, where anything certainly goes.

So, uh... I guess Tl;Dr of my rant is just: Not everyone's toxic, but let's stop pretending no one is either. gcbtw

Nobody says that there is no toxicity in FFXIV.

Some of these people Harassing Asmondgold (Lol he made his last name BALD) , are most definitely players of FFXIV and they TRULY believe he is here to ruin their game, or they're just insular and xenophobic of him for whatever reason.
However we also have to concede that this is the kind of reception he gets in whatever game he plays because he is a popular streamer and his persona is perceived a certain way by the people who tertiarily are aware of him. Not that he deserves it in any way, but it happens again and again. As someone who watches his content (and enjoys it btw, I think he's kinda funny and understand his character is a parody of the basement dwelling no-job MMO player stereotype), I can tell you the reason he's taking this so well is he has a LOT of practice with it. Popular streamers in general accept that there's just a population of people that for whatever reason want to get on stream or in content and make themselves known by whatever method possible and negative attention is just as good as positive for them.


One more time though, he does not deserve this in any way and I really hope it peters out some so he can enjoy the actual game.


FFXIV is not a perfect community and we as the players are no better than any other games players, but the standards we enjoy and the general reception to MOST new players are pretty good when compared to other games.

I would bet real money the vast majority of these alleged stream stalkers are actually his own people just farming drama to boost his ratings/attention/stream revenue. That is the science of Twitch these days after all.

But the fact half the threads on the forum are "poor little streamer, that big bad FFXIV community done a boo" should clue any of the exceedingly cool people in this by and large mature and intelligent community that this is all a load of drama farming BS.

If it weren't then people would just report abuse in-game and let SE moderate their own game.

You are blaming the victim, and he was not the only victim either. People on Cactuar suffered greatly from it. I watched his streams, and people have quite a bit of information that these are not his fans. They organized on Twitter and Discord to harass him, but you probably knew this already. His fans were standing off to the side or just learning the game like he was.

Asmon has been very positive about the whole experience so far. He is top 10 in hours watched right now among streamers. He doesn't need the help, and his lifestyle doesn't demand that he needs more money. He actually often restricts things like donations, because he doesn't need the money badly.

Dont know who you talk to that says that... everyone I know always says yeah we have assholes haha. All online games have them to a degree. Im just talking about when people take a handful, then say or act as if the whole community is toxic like...

personally, crowding around him would be a pain and yeah, I think anyone doing it deserves a ban of some kind

but lets face it... he made $30,000 USD for one stream

I think he's a big enough boy to deal with it and hardly deserve sympathy.

it sucks that some people are like that yes, but its hardly the entire FFXIV community doing this, most of us actually play the game, not enough bandwidth to harass a streamer if we even cared.

It's mainly about how much preparation you need to do both beforehand, and during the situation that makes it difficult. You don't just report the situation, wave a magic wand then everything is pixies and rainbows. Things take time to resolve.

Asmon's stream made me very happy they were in solidarity on reporting that caster on a whale mount whom is now banned. What I saw from the outcome of this were plenty of FFXIV apologists thinking "oh this game doesn't have toxic players, they are all just trial accounts". Uh huh, since when can trials have a DR savage Cerebus mount or TEA Perfect Legend weapons?

I'm going to say this again, once again, because people keep being so bloody stupid. NOBODY WAS SAYING THEY WEREN'T FFXIV PLAYERS, WE'RE ALL TAKING ISSUE WITH PEOPLE BLAMING THE ENTIRE COMMUNITY! ONLY 1 SERVER OUT OF 8 HAS ACCESS TO THAT WORLD, ONLY 300 PEOPLE ARE ALLOWED IN A MAP AT A TIME! STOP USING THOSE PEOPLE TO LABEL THE REST OF THE MILLIONS OF FFXIV PLAYERS AS TOXIC!
