I'd have to agree with this. I've seen all 3 on these forums. I fall into the group that says just let him do as he pleases. If he wants to play, fine. I won't object. If he ends up liking the game and staying, good. If he hates it and quits, his choice. I've dropped in on his FF14 stream and he seems to be enjoying himself well enough at least.

Sorry did not get to finish my post was on moblie. Point I was trying to make is the amount of people that do not want him to play is kinda irrelevant in the grand scheme the sad truth is the small vocal minority is enough to foster and keep the meme of our "gcbtw" going strong. No matter how few they are their presence is amplified by the fact they are doing it to the top FFXIV streamer by a large margin currently. They will be used as the standard to that represents our community to the general public especially if clips get passed around are shared across social media etc . . .

The truth is they do represent us as a whole to the causal viewer.

That might be one of the most intelligent things to ever come out of his mouth tbh.

What I haven't seen people really touch upon yet, is that this would be good for the Final Fantasy Twitch community.

FFXIV twitch streamers don't get very many views usually, so where are these twitch viewers watching Asmon, excited about FFXIV, going to go when his stream ends for the day? They'll check out the other FFXIV Streamers.

I see this as an overall net positive, and good publicity for the game.

Maybe, but that doesn't have to be the case for those of us in the know (or those of us who understand that any large community can have differing voices within it, including FFXIV, including WoW, etc.).

The problem is that the recent threads about Asmongold is only trolling the community by being divisive instead of simply pointing the blame where it lies.

It seems to me that there is a secondary agenda of targeting people who dare to claim that they find this community to be great/better than others. If anyone finds this community to be no better than others, then that's too bad, but also understandable as different people can find different experiences within a large community. But that's no excuse to try to bring others down as well.

True we in the know can tell the difference though I have always approached this from the perspective of the new player or those not in the know. In truth the existing players perception of the community is kinda moot when it comes to a those that get a perception based around comments found on twitter or streams as an example.

In truth they stance do not worry is not so bad that is just a small set of players often does not work for me when it comes to trying to get friends to play games I enjoy like LoL.

I follow Sofie and Zepla, after Asmongold Allcraft summed with Fat Black Chocobo campaign their numbers spiked by a lot. I dont have idea about other streamers, but I believe they all benefit from it somehow?

Also lots of new players joined to see FFXIV, I know that some are there to be a pain but many are probably trying and enjoying the game.

I mean the point is moot. People who coin the term 'gcbtw', in the case of a lot of them even unironically, will find any other reason they possibly can to do so. Asmongold is just the current flavor with which they go ''SEE? GCBTW, I WAS RIGHT ALL ALONG!''. And once the novelty of Asmongold playing FFXIV passes they'll either go back to previous things they went 'gcbtw' with or find a new reason.

It's little more than forcing some weird sense of 'this is the true colors of the entire community' onto the actions of individual idiots.

But there are also positive comments found on social media, but those are the ones that people seem to hate while negative comments are suddenly just something the newcomers are supposed to accept without being challenged.
