PvP is implemented in a way that is entirely optional. That wouldn't likely change and - shockingly - anyone who didn't like PvP would therefore not have to partake of it.

I just hope some of the upcoming MMO's end up providing some healthy competition for FFXIV so the developers are forced to do more to make the game stand out.
This is an ongoing MMO. Players requested male viera which were never before seen in an FF game, and they got it! Why can't players request open world PvP too? This game does have PvP, believe it or not. I think along with improvements to the PvP in general, open world PvP would be a fine addition to this game.
