Thoughts on the races.

At this point, I have played every single race at some point, except Elezen.

Elezen: Never managed to make one I would be happy to pay a Fantasia for. Only race I never brought in game at some point. My least favorite race.

Lalafell: My favorite race, my longer played character was a bearded Lala male but currently playing as a lala girl. Love their emotes, running style...

Miqo'te: I liked my male Miqote for some time, never played female Miqote however.

Roegadyn: Also loved my male Roe but was never a fan of the way they walk/run. Never made a female Roe work for me but I have seen some great ones on the forum.

Au Ra: Played both genders but ultimately never played them very long. Not 100% sure why but I feel like they do not have much personality. I think this is probably because of their poses and emotes...

Viera: Played one for the launch of Heavensward but never looked back after I changed. Similarly to Aura, I am not a fan of their emotes + lack of hairstyles. Personally do not care about headgears since I usually do not wear any but the lack of hairstyle truly is a mood killer...

Hrothgar: My main character on JP server is a Hrothgar. Really love that teddy bear but the lack of customization is also quite the killer.

Hyur: If you like vanilla ice cream...

Hyur: They can be pretty handsome to me!! Good for people who like the standard human look. (Maybe!)

Elezen: Perfect for that vintage goth aesthetic. (Yes)

Roegadyn: Piratey moms and dads. I really like how the females look, but I'm not particularly interested in them since they don't fit my aesthetic. (No)

Au Ra: Males HOT!! Girls... very cute.. although my friends are creeped out by the fact that they're so tiny in comparison to the guys.. I love them! I think their scales are super cool, and I reeallyyy like the overall body shape of the males. (Maybe!)

Miqo'te: I love cats, their ear and tail wiggles melt my heart. The /joy emote for them is the absolute best. 10/10 Master race. (Without a doubt)

Lalafell: ...... I don't trust them. (No)

Viera: YES!! Yes to everything. I love that the males and females look similar, I'm absolutely digging the kind of androgynous look that the males have to them, but they both can still look intimidating if people know how to make them look so. The huge ears are a huge plus. I can't wait to make a male alt. (Yes)

Hrothgar: Dads with back problems ): Please get well soon Hrothdads <3 (No)

Elezen: Males and Females are great, but are ruined by their stiff animations and some janky proportions. Went through HW as one. (Yes)

Lalafell: Possibly the most expressive race in XIV. All their emotes are full of energy and emotion. But potatoes only serve to be mashed (No)

Miqo'te: The gold standard of weebs and ERPers in XIV. Make up 90% of the population in Limsa on every server. Females can be okay, but plagued by same-face syndrome. Males look like they have severe arthritis in most of their idle animations. (Maybe)

Roegadyn: Tall muscle ladies. Walking barrel males. (No)

Au Ra: Male proportions are up there with Elezen on how wack they are. Fem Au Ra are cute, but they could be taller. Also the victims of the playerbase not knowing there is more to them than just Face 1 Eyes 3. (Yes!)

Viera: The opposite of Au Ra. Hot and tall. Remains to be seen if males will live up to the same standard. (Yes)

Hrothgar: Hunched furries. (No)

Hyur: The race that is most affected by both the game's bad lighting and the dated models being used. Can be really pretty if effort is put into them. (Yes)

I've used the online name Felix since 2003. It's originally not the Felix the Cat, but Felix from James Bond where I got the name from. Eventually, I used Felix the Cat as it's easy to have an avatar etc. So for me, Miqo'te fits really well. I prefer them over the more butch Hrothgar (also they were not in the game when I started). In WoW I played as a Gnome, because in RL I am just under 6'5" and loved the irony. Irony is, I hate cats and I am very much a dog person, have been since I was a toddler in the early 80's.

I'm oldish compared to a lot of players, so the term weeb is not one I had heard about until pretty recently. To be honest, I like playing as a cat , I think the art is wonderful (I did play as a few different races, before going with the cat). I worry about what people think about me in RL enough as it is, so I'm not going to be bothered by what is perceived about the race I choose in this game. I don't give a flying fudge if someone chooses a race due to their own kinks, as long as it's not affecting anyone underage, then that's fine.

Life it too short to get hung up on stuff like this.

Au Ra - are they dragons or are they demons? their creation in lore makes me think creations by using voidsent as base one clan by an ascian the other by a WoL at that time perhaps..i like their Asian aesthetic.

Miqote - cute kitty girls are always a fav. Ear wiggles are cute af. I wanna play with their tails.

Roes - I like tall. Just wish the femroes were more feminine like the Queen model. If they ever add more customization and take Roes the oni route I would def roll one. (horns on their forehead either a pair or a single unicorn-like horn)

Viera - I love the amazonian theme Viera have. A race of warrior women has always appealed to me. Just wish they had more variety of hair styles instead of all but 2 being extremely long and very samey.

...In fact if I could I would put hairstyles on glamour plates and switch hairstyles with my outfits ...

I think everyone would like that! It would save time if you could just jump into a preset look, having a glamour/hairstyle for any map & occasion...and also be able to switch on any map. It would save a lot of time and Gil to be like Loki and automatically transform to what you needed, to go from a party to a hunt to a secondary job and back...without having to spend so much time customizing for each gig. Needing only to visit Ed Grimly when you want to change your preset hairstyles for the plate.

For those races I care for:

Midlanders - fave race, great face selection for the males, and I love how the derplander face can give rise to expressions like:



They honestly look the most like your typical FF character, be it protagonist or antagonist, and it's great. I'd just like the option for more muscle mass. Not too keen on the females as I think they look too cutesy.

Highlanders - the females have what are, IMO, the most beautiful female facial picks of any race, in a conventionally attractive sense. I'm not too keen on the male facial options but the bodies are nice.

Au Ra - the males (my second fave pick) look awesome, and I even like their strange, bull in a China shop run. They have this unshakeable anime look about them, in a good way. I'd like to be able to adjust their muscle tone (ideally, mass even) and de-couple the horns from the faces. The females are pretty but look too scrawny.

Miqo'te - I think catboy animations really drive home their inspiration from cats. They look good in an anime sense. Ruined by the number of obnoxious fujos playing them. I wouldn't play one but I like the dadcat face. Females, I guess they're alright but never really stuck out to me.

Elezen - could be great, have awesome facial features, but I find the necks too long, the proportions weird and the animations too stiff. They'd be my usual go-to in a fantasy setting but SE's design choices put me off.

Lalafell - a race with virtually no redeeming features other than being the choice of a certain elite raider that deigns to come enlighten us on the forum.

Viera - need to see more of the male facial picks, but their builds look fairly athletic, with lean muscle, and the faces attractive, but I'd like to see the more masculine options; females are fine, they benefit from the higher quality textures that went into their design.

I’ve played every race but being a pitch black lalafell with yellow eyes to try to look like the classic black mage in the artifact gear or Elezen are my favorite. I’ve probably fantasia’d back and forth between the two the most and also Elezen looks great as many classes such as Black Mage, Dragoon, Machinist, Astrologian and I don’t know which tank but I suspect DrK and maybe Gunblade.

I was just a Hrothgar and I did my best to make my guy look like Khimari Ronso but I couldn’t quite make it work. Also sadly I couldn’t wear my black mage hat so I got a little bummed and became an Elezen (again).

Hyur = Forever on top of my list. Glamour scheme are flowing like Niagara Falls, it hardly stops. If I have fantasia addiction, I’d most likely spend them back & forth between Midlanders & Highlanders. Females falls slightly short for their over-cutesy vibe but would still be my go-to. (10/10)

Miqo’te = Feels like a short Hyur + cat ear + cat tail. Some distinction here & there. Kinda dislike their hand though. Also personal bias due to how often I’ve seen them sexualized more often compared to other races.(4/10)

Roegadyn = Chicken Nugget-race. That being said, the female options have some of the opts that I wish they’re accessible to Fem hyurs! Glams can look a bit strange one male Roes thanks to their figure. (6/10)

Elezen = Giraffes! Females has some of the most beautiful options but falls short in my list due to their general weird proportion, especially noticeable around their neck & rear view of their head. Males? Send Ser Aymeric my way, please. (7/10)

Lalafell = Adorable in many ways. But not a race that I'd want to be myself. (6/10)

Au’ra = I tried playing around glams with this race; it wasn’t as pleasant as with Hyur. Body dysmorphia. Inability to color their scales. That immense size difference between males & females. All kinda reminds me of an old, weird perspective about males vs females stereotypes in some of Eastern Asian countries. No, just no. That stuff needs to die. (2/10)

Hrothgar = Mixed feeling toward this feline race. At first I kind of dislike them for mostly being presented as ‘UwU huggy hug cat dad’-race by several players I encountered. But my stance soften as I learnt more of their NPCs in ShB contents—mostly from Save The Queen. (5/10)

Viera = Similar to female Miqo’te, except with more dignity-vibe that Elezen possesses, more elegant, & gorgeous. Like Hroth, can’t say much more until they get the opposite counterparts. (6/10)
