Thoughts on the races.

What are your takes on the available races, and would you play them?:

Elezen: Tall people with little heads. I'm going to guess it's for snobby elitists or those who like to fantasize about the glamorous life of storybook nobility. (No)


Lalafell: Funny and cute hobbits. Probably for people with a playful sense of humor, but also short tempers. (Yes)


Miqo'te: Kitty, ears, tails and puns. Probably played by those who own cats or those who try to live the nekomimi stereotype. (Yes)


Roegadyn: Ogres! Probably played by Shrek fans or who like overly masculine avatars. (No)


Au Ra: Demons! Probably played by angry people who often argue on social media or edge lords who brood of revenge or romance drama. (No)


Viera: Elegant amazons, for those vogue rogues. For those players who like to hop into battle with a rugged supermodel or to play out the bunnygirl stereotype. (Yes)


Hrothgar: The mountain barbarian kitty! Often played by ether the big loveable lug or the someone who wants to play the mighty beast. (Yes)

Hyur: Humans. There are two variants more distinct than the other races variants. The reality show teenagers and the middle aged MMA fighters. The younger ones are probably played more by the casual default human crowd, while the rugged one's probably by the DBZ & Streetfighter fans. (Yes)

My Hyur is my favorite, for casual play. But I also have a couple Miqo'te because I'm a big cat fan. And eventually plan to try a Hrothgar. :3 I tried a Veira, they are neat, I like their elegant primping postures like you see on a magazine cover. I've also played a Lalafell, they are perfect for those who have a sense of humor and there is a better chance they will be friendly players from what I've seen, though a few do tend to have that sudden explosive temper.

This makes me want to switch back to being a lalafell - the race I picked initially when I started.

For those races I care for:

Midlanders - fave race, great face selection for the males, and I love how the derplander face can give rise to expressions like:



They honestly look the most like your typical FF character, be it protagonist or antagonist, and it's great. I'd just like the option for more muscle mass. Not too keen on the females as I think they look too cutesy.

Highlanders - the females have what are, IMO, the most beautiful female facial picks of any race, in a conventionally attractive sense. I'm not too keen on the male facial options but the bodies are nice.

Au Ra - the males (my second fave pick) look awesome, and I even like their strange, bull in a China shop run. They have this unshakeable anime look about them, in a good way. I'd like to be able to adjust their muscle tone (ideally, mass even) and de-couple the horns from the faces. The females are pretty but look too scrawny.

Miqo'te - I think catboy animations really drive home their inspiration from cats. They look good in an anime sense. Ruined by the number of obnoxious fujos playing them. I wouldn't play one but I like the dadcat face. Females, I guess they're alright but never really stuck out to me.

Elezen - could be great, have awesome facial features, but I find the necks too long, the proportions weird and the animations too stiff. They'd be my usual go-to in a fantasy setting but SE's design choices put me off.

Lalafell - a race with virtually no redeeming features other than being the choice of a certain elite raider that deigns to come enlighten us on the forum.

Viera - need to see more of the male facial picks, but their builds look fairly athletic, with lean muscle, and the faces attractive, but I'd like to see the more masculine options; females are fine, they benefit from the higher quality textures that went into their design.

Hyur = Forever on top of my list. Glamour scheme are flowing like Niagara Falls, it hardly stops. If I have fantasia addiction, I’d most likely spend them back & forth between Midlanders & Highlanders. Females falls slightly short for their over-cutesy vibe but would still be my go-to. (10/10)

Miqo’te = Feels like a short Hyur + cat ear + cat tail. Some distinction here & there. Kinda dislike their hand though. Also personal bias due to how often I’ve seen them sexualized more often compared to other races.(4/10)

Roegadyn = Chicken Nugget-race. That being said, the female options have some of the opts that I wish they’re accessible to Fem hyurs! Glams can look a bit strange one male Roes thanks to their figure. (6/10)

Elezen = Giraffes! Females has some of the most beautiful options but falls short in my list due to their general weird proportion, especially noticeable around their neck & rear view of their head. Males? Send Ser Aymeric my way, please. (7/10)

Lalafell = Adorable in many ways. But not a race that I'd want to be myself. (6/10)

Au’ra = I tried playing around glams with this race; it wasn’t as pleasant as with Hyur. Body dysmorphia. Inability to color their scales. That immense size difference between males & females. All kinda reminds me of an old, weird perspective about males vs females stereotypes in some of Eastern Asian countries. No, just no. That stuff needs to die. (2/10)

Hrothgar = Mixed feeling toward this feline race. At first I kind of dislike them for mostly being presented as ‘UwU huggy hug cat dad’-race by several players I encountered. But my stance soften as I learnt more of their NPCs in ShB contents—mostly from Save The Queen. (5/10)

Viera = Similar to female Miqo’te, except with more dignity-vibe that Elezen possesses, more elegant, & gorgeous. Like Hroth, can’t say much more until they get the opposite counterparts. (6/10)

Haha yeah, I'd probably play that one.
They are quite charming and their happy animations would probably make it hard to have a bad time.

Elezen: Chad race. Ascended above the rest of the plebian furry underclass, both physically and spiritually. Neck long to better look down upon their peers. (Yes)

Lalafell: Always a interesting person to be around, for good or bad reasons. An instant pass to get away with posting questionable things in chats without anyone questioning it. (Yes)

Miqo'te: Very, very rare to see a Miqo'te that looks different/cool. Always kinda cringy in cutscenes, either player character or NPCs. (No)

Roegadyn: Big lady steppie. (Yes)

Au Ra: No meme time - Female Au Ra generally really creep me out with their hyper-feminization in comparison to the males. Everyone I meet irl who plays fem Au Ra are always weird. Always ERPers. I've REALLY tried to get over my extreme distaste for them (see avatar) but even covered with a mask they are weird and pandering with girly, princess animations despite one of the clans being a literal war faring race. I am gonna fantasia off as soon as I get around to working on this alt. (Females : No / Males : Yes)

Viera: Pretty nice and tall. Can't wait for bunny boys. (Yes)

Hrothgar: Bad version of Ronso with a hunchback. (No)

Hyur: Nice and simple. Nice animations. (Yes)

Hyur M: Midlanders are kinda meh, but a few of the faces are OK if done well. Highlanders are where it's at though. Best race/clan combo in the game. (Yes)
Hyur F: Except for 1 face I don't really like any of the midlander faces, not exactly sure what it is, but they all look like sad or unnerved girls, so no thanks. Highlander women look great but the playerbase usually chooses the ugly face to try and make them look more like midlanders... (Yes. Highlanders)

Miqote M: The difference between the two aren't really distinguishing enough to me to really have a strong preference between clans. Their hands are screwed up to the point that when I did try to play one it turned me off from playing them. (No)
Miqote F: I think the best thing I've ever seen out of these was the player who had, "This is my catgirl. There are many like her, but this one is mine." as a play on Marines and their rifles. I don't mind them, but man they are not for me. (No)

Lalafell: Comedy race that grows tiresome to me in more serious affairs. Most gear looks bad on them. I do love petting their heads. I spent a very small amount of time as one, like 5 months or so, on an alt character. (Yes)

Roegadyn M: Discount Galkas. Feels wrong without the tail. Reminds me of Gades from Lufia 2. Some people say Ganondorf, so him too. My first alt was a Roe for over a year. (Yes)
Roegadyn F: Hot, Hot, HOT! The hottest ladies in game. Again though, the playerbase generally makes them look kinda bad by trying to masculinize them. (Yes)

Elezen M: Basically taller midlanders with more likeable facial options. Their lankiness really shows in their animations though, and without a muscle slider they come off as way too skinny to me. Clan differences are barely noticeable unless grey skin. (Yes)
Elezen F: Hard to do well, and a lot of people who play them make them look either incredibly good or incredibly ridiculous. There is no in between. (Yes)

Au Ra M: Unga Bunga Demon Xaela or Refined, divine Fish-like Raen... they more or less come off the same. Strong dudes with girly hips that stole the cat boy run, but managed to stay away from jacked up hands. Scales are very cool. I prefer black. (Yes)
Au Ra F: Adorable moe blobs. Run very stiff. Much better than cat girls, sorry not sorry cat girls. A little too short, honestly. But they might look really weird tall. Definitely a choice to pander to the playerbase as for why they're so short. (No)

Viera: Hot bunny girls that practically all have the same face. Default gear shows off glorious butt. A little too sexual if you ask me. Good at being serious or funny though in cutscenes. (No)

Hrothgar: Manthers. Cat Dads. Roe's with the level 52 Lion mask or the i110 PVP ones. The least humanoid of all the races. Very cool. (Yes)

Honestly No, most of the races are pretty much the same but since I can't play without having to pick one, I guess outta the bunch I'd say Hrothgar and Au'Ra are interesting enough visually to play with Hrothgar winning though. I have my doubts on female hrothgar being just as creative as the males though but we'll see.
