To be perfectly honest I think FFXIV should have something similar to the Outposts in XI. Instead of just easily teleporting there your grand company has to work on getting the locations. However I dont think this would work well until after 2.0 since the maps are so big that getting an outpost for certain areas would be pointless since some areas people dont really want to fight in. However when 2.0 reduces the map size, I would say that a system similar to that would be one of the things which was done right in XI which could be implemented in 2.0

Why are the map sizes being reduced in 2.0? They are splitting up each zone into 3 or 4 areas will different environmental themes or landscapes so add some variety to the large monotonous zones... but I've never really heard them implicitly say they are making them smaller
