You prove my point then. AST and NIN I enjoyed because the overall plot actually lasted for more than old lvl cap to new lvl cap. SAM from 50 to 60 was a nice exception, though (I think it was that range). 60 to 70 in comparison was very boring for me. Character gets introduced, has like 3 lines of dialogue and then dies. And I am supposed to care? It's just not enough time to tell something compelling every expansion.

There is a reason why Emet is such a compelling villain. He got time to, y'know, develop.

Same can be said for Stormblood and why so many felt it's the weakest expansion.

Then step up the story telling but combining the quest is a MASSIVE MASSIVE mistake. Want an example? In World of warcraft you used to have to actually go through a quest as a Warlock to learn how to summon your pets. It created a class identity and gave depth to the lore of the class.

In FF14 there are similar quest for Summoner that give you a history. Now imagine in Endwalker if you now have to share a generic quest with other Magic Ranged classes. It is just shallow development that I promise you will slowly chip away at the RPG part of the MMORPG.

No matter how popular FF14 is right now we cannnot sit back and allow Square Enix to think this decision is ok. Just because some job quest were not as cool as the Dark Knight quest does not mean anything to me. You cannot use that as a justification for stripping job identity out a final fantasy game.

This current game direction flies in the face of everything this franchise was built on. I am LITERALLY begging Square Enix to not go down this path because I have seen how it ends. Just because the salty FF14 veterans players are jaded about this system does not change the fact it is core to job identity to a lot of people and creates a sense of RPG feeling in an MMO world becoming more obsessed with saving a dime in the short term and missing out on a dollar in the future.

If it continues then this Paladin is just going to feel like Generic Tank Role #1 that I can care less about and is easily swappable with no attachment and at that point I have to ask myself why am I still playing if I have no attachment to my primary job.

I doubt that the Endwalker Role quests will be generic. I'd expect them more to be storyline crossovers focusing on the similarities and differences between the jobs in each role. The Magic Ranged Role quests will likely involve X'rhun Tia, Arya, Lalai, Zhai'a Nelhah, Jajasamu and Y'mhirta teaming up to do what Magic Ranged jobs do best:rain destruction down on enemies.

The Endwalker Tank role quests will likely involve Curios Gorge, Broken Mountain, Dorgono, Sidurgu, Rielle, Radovan, Sophie, Aldis and Solkzagyl.

My question remains is how does the Dark Knight, Gunbreaker and Warrior quest differ from what me as a Paladin gets. At what point do they put a new shiny ability on my bar and I do not know why except here is your new shiny. I honestly do not care if the quest is goofy or sucks compared to that awesome quest over there I care that it is still an RPG.

The main issue we know how it ends. Slowly the RPG elements of am MMORPG start to get chipped away as things are sacrificed in the name of expediency until one day we are all sitting here with shiny jobs with no substance.

Unfortunately I feel this post will be looked back upon as when the FF14 job experience lost its depth.

What's actually kind of funny is that in the JP version of the game, PLD is just Knight. It's literally Generic Tank Role #1, referencing FF1 more than any other entry in the series. Your attachment is to a name, basically.

It's kind of funny, too. In the SHB role quests the NPC is a DRK, but the quest revolves around a man who was once a knight/PLD for Voeburt. I hate to admit it, but it was much more compelling tale than PLD/Knight quests 30-60. It was also a tale that forced every tank to play as PLD/Knight in the Echo vision. The tank role quests literally forced the class fantasy you're most attached to onto the entire tank portion of the playerbase, heh.

The more people bring it up, the more interested I am in thinking about what they're going to do to implement role quests for Endwalker. I wouldn't think them to really be necessary, after Shadowbringers, but I guess we're getting new skip potions since those are a thing now... and never going away due to making bank off of incoming players who get conned into buying them.

I'd still very much love job quests due to loving the NPCs that come with them. I rather liked the sound of the old mentors for each job showing up in their respective role paths, but I don't think they will either... though, then again, perhaps there might be a branched cutscene like that innroom cutscene that referenced the Role Quest NPCs in SHB. Where, depending on which role quests you did, you could call any of the role mentors or Cylva to the door.
