WoW and FFXIV have such different lore it feels unfair to compare the two of them.
Another thing to consider is with WoWs gameplay, you don't get the full details unless you read the books. WoWs lore is in depth, huge and beautiful - but if you only ever play the game, you'd never know any of that. It's very much NOT like FFXIV in that way. Where FFXIV plays the story out for you to watch as you play, WoW hopes its playerbase will read the books that come along with the game in order to fill in the blanks. :3

Oof, I'm not knocking it!

I loved the story. By the end of it though, I felt worn down questing and wasn't enjoying it. The story was beautiful, no lie. I just didn't enjoy the questing aspect. There are other things in the game I enjoy doing. I left it out, but I also enjoy crafting stuff and farming things (I have depression/anxiety and I found the chill of farming as a botanist just mellows me out)

I love WoW and FFXIV lore. And while sometimes FFXIV questing can get me down, I do appreciate that they are so transparent in game with what's happening. I love to read, but I also hate that I HAVE to in order to fully understand what's going on in WoW.

Which is a huge turn off imo. I remember they skipped about a book worth of story going from MoP into WoD and you're just wondering how you got there. Even worse is their habit of straight up deleting large chunks of story, including past legendaries, pre-expansion introduction quest lines and end of expansion quests. Picking up BFA a little after release was a huge disappointment because I'd wanted to catch up on the story from end up Legion leading up to BFA and learned I was too late and they'd literally deleted a lot of it.

WoW is just a never ending list of baffling developer decisions in what could otherwise be a great game.

Yeah I was talking mostly about story telling, as in how it is done in the actual game. WoW has a vast lore spread across different media which I enjoy aswell.
The few cut scenes(cinematics) in the game hardly do it any justice though, this is where FFXIV shines.

I always said WoW has lore, FFXIV has story. One of the reasons I can't rp seriously in FFXIV is because Azeroth has me feeling so pampered.


I also really think that the weakest point of ARR is the gameplay experience. Remember that 50 used to be when you had all of your skills, but it's a pauper's meal compared to the load out you get for how the jobs are expected to play now. It's a long time to go with very few job mechanics.

Lets not forget that factions often get two slightly different cutscenes sometimes!
Legion was AWFUL with the faction fighting on forums/FB over whether or not the Horde abandoned the alliance to be jerks, etc -- because alliance players didn't get the full cutscene of what actually happened. I get faction wars in game. I don't quite understand trying to nudge your player base into fighting outside of it haha.

Tbh this doesn’t seem much different from 14. Especially in ShB. There’s a loooot of integral lore points that are locked away in the short stories or lore books that people literally wouldn’t and don’t know about. It’s kind of sad actually.
