I do wish FFXIV would branch out into other forms of media like books to expand on the lore. That is what got me into WoW lore as a kid the books. Which in turn lead to a greater investment into the game world.

The biggest difference is FFXIV doesn't cheat you out of story if you don't read those books. You STILL know what's going on.
As much as I love WoW, they tuck so much vital info away in the books that it isn't even funny :c
I feel like the fact that if you have to go out of the game to find the lore then it's bad. Destiny was shamed for this and rightfully so. So it's odd WoW gets a pass.. I find that a failure in gamedesign... but that is just my opinion. XIV does it better simply because I don't have to go out hunting and buying books for something that should've been explain in the game itself.
ehhhh, in a way it does. Like there’s pivotal lore pieces about the Garleans tucked away in the lore book that gives reasoning to the way they are now. There’s things about Zenos or the Ascians that if you don’t read the short stories, viewpoints can be extremely different. I feel like it’s something that should be avoided entirely in multiplayer games, because then it causes an uproar amongst players over what’s accurate information and what isn’t. And not everyone has access to things like lore books.
It was kind of an eat your cake situation. A lot of people don't care about a games story, and only want to have a fun game to log into. People were so mad about having to replay certain segments of story in previous expansions (because they did try to pull it into the game), that they just let you have a skip sequence.I feel like the fact that if you have to go out of the game to find the lore then it's bad. In fact, people hated the story quest of certain races so much that they figured out how to kill themselves inside the scenario, make the game return an error, and teleport them across the world to the "I don't know what happened but you need to res somewhere" graveyard.
The people who care about the story eat up the material when it comes out, and the true PvP ensues on the story forum.
Trust, you don't even need to read the new book because some outraged soul with give you the entire TL;DR an hour after it drops.
*laughs in Elder Scrolls*
Memes aside I see lore and story being used interchangeably in this thread, they shouldn't be
im baby
I feel like what you're saying about those are for one still in the game in XIV to some degree and two not as big as missing out entire huge storylines like in WoW. There's a huge difference between the two. XIV is expanding but you're not missing out in any of the major plot points. You'll be seriously missing out on entire huge storylines in WoW if you don't pony up the cash and buy books that could've and should've been in the game you pay 60 bucks for plus 15 every month not including each expac.ehhhh, in a way it does. Almost 500 responses saying "who cares"
Haha
I still say he isn't even going to play it. It looks like people won't leave him along about it and he's just going to say - fuck it- and keep playing classic. I don't care what he does, but it's a shame people are over blowing this to the point that he's having anger flashes when someone mentions XIV. I don't for see him playing.
