Obviously this data is subjective but can we talk about how much of a GENIUS decision it was to make from 1-60 free and include the Heavensward expansion.

I can see this causing major drama. Some people seem to think Twitch is a good reflection of population numbers for an MMO. This game is very huge in Japan but please tell me where they stream at as it is not Twitch.

Here is hoping this forces Blizzard to step up their game and we can get some real competition going in the MMO space making both MMO's better.

Congratulations Square Enix for having developers that treat players with respect.

Potentially a bit misleading with Classic and Normal WoW being separated, but taking that aside, and even the competition aspect, and viewing the number itself, it's still a pretty great number enshrining them as a titan part of their industry (if one didn't already think that) - so well done indeed.

Like I've said before its total mmo population count is based off subreddit numbers. The websites MMO Growth page is literally tracking how many reddit accounts follow the subreddit as subs.

Also MMO-Population doesnt explain their equations anymore since they removed that info from the site after blatantly saying their math is literally "subreddit number multiplied by some special variable"

Oh and its variable is always different for each of the games -- so it might as well be made-up math.

Not with that type of Attitude. But seriously anything is possible. FFXIV keeps growing and WoW keeps losing player. It could happen in the future, but it would most likely be Blizzards fault if it does.

On the other hand, simply adding up both retail and classic numbers isn't gonna give a clear percentage on how much more it has over XIV. There's a good chunk of players who play both versions.
Does WoW have more active players than XIV? Most likely, but the numbers are much closer nowadays, in comparison to how things used to be.

Even if it wasn't perfectly accurate, it's a good representation of the current situation. FF14 is indeed doing better than it ever has before and WoW is on a steady decline. It doesn't make me happy seeing WoW fall, I hope they see the increase in competition as a motivator to create quality content again, but I am happy this game is thriving. It might encourage SE to invest and throw the devs a little more budget.

It does depend if a player who actively plays both counts towards both totals. What surprises me most however is how large the Classic population is compared to Retail. Classic is a game that was created by a completely different development team to the current one. It's not a good outlook when your modern, polished game is struggling to keep up with a decade and a half old game made by the Devs you long since fired.
