Yeah, Emet asking us to remember, and his actions in 5.3 plus the perspective he has on the other two in the short stories really hammer home that he fully believed the others were to far gone and the cause was going to end with him one way or the other.

I can only imagine how bad Elidibus's memory issues would have gotten if he had won in 5.3. Even when Laha and Emet were both alive he was clearly degrading, without either around to even try to anchor him or believe in him as the person they once knew, it would have only gotten worse.

There's an AU somewhere where he lingers on autopilot for so long but forgets so much that Fandaniel could probably turn him into a direct lackey without much effort.

Super late on this but I just finally did the YoRHa finale. I'm not even going to hide this behind a spoiler tag because I have so little to say about it. It was just as confusing as the rest of the raid series to me. I didn't understand all the stats either. Someone in this thread said those are the stats from each server on who picked who, Anogg or Konogg. Well, I can't remember whose side I picked a long time ago so not sure if the ending is different.

I literally shrugged after it was over and moved on. Anyway, back to grinding Loathsome.

While I doubt back then they had much idea where the Ascians would end up, they've retroactively explained Lahabreas diminished power and "differing" shall we say personality and ideals to the other unsundered.
I'm still kind of unsure why, if Lahabrea is known to be so unstable and weak and completely out of it, the Ascians still gave him Igeyorhm to supervise in Heavensward.

Maybe they had what was needed to make Ascian Prime, and the other Ascians were incompatible with Lahabrea. Also though, Igeyorhm maybe asked to help out, since Lahabrea failed when trying things on his own with a few black masks for minion grunt work.

Ignoring that they're trying to fill in the problems backwards, in lore I think it's willing blindness, Emet, while he acknowledges Lahabrea's decline, he is one of only two other people remaining of the world he knew, he doesn't want to accept that one of the only remaining pieces of that life, the dream they're trying to reforge is fading away from him, because, really Lahabrea IS the only remaining piece, given what Elidibus is, due to that nature that he too is destined to slowly lose himself to that which he is forced to draw strength from, it's up to him and Lahabrea to keep him reminding him, but now Emet finds himself alone, the soul one to remember them, to remember that they once lived, how they once lived, they they were more than this. It's no wonder the man wants to sleep all the time, dream of the world he's lost in the hopes he'll either wake up to it having been restored in wake up to the vail hope that losing it was the dream.

I also think it's why Emet contradicts himself so much, after you fail to control the light and he claims you'll turn into a beast and kill everyone, he still puts on a history lesson for you, someone who he claims won't remember any of it, because he knows you will and he needs you to, because after he's gone, someone has to, because he's the only one left who does and he just wants someone else to remember, he can't bering them back, but he can't let them be forgotten. "I won't let it all be for naught!" It wasn't so long as someone still knows they existed.

Yeah, fair on Emet-Selch probably trying to act out to cope. When we first saw him, he was going "lol Lahabrea is dead, he was stupid anyway". Which is very strange if he actually cared about Lahabrea anyway, but if it was him trying to hide his grief in a deeply unhealthy way, maybe it fits? (I honestly can't understand it myself, but I've been told everyone processes grief differently.)

Yeah, some people can be cold or even downright nasty to the person that died even if they cared about them for that very reason, they cared about them and they went and "left" them, in Emet's case all alone, even though it wasn't like Lahabrea killed himself, he was still gone and Emet was now the last true unsundered. Worse still in Emets case is unlike you or I who if we lose someone we can find someone to till the void as an unsundered Emet could never find another unsundered, so it hits even harder.

I think while Emet was true to his word and was honest with you during 5.0 he was also only honest on a surface levle in that he gave honest information and was willing to be helpful, the man clearly spoke in half truths at time, had meaning within his words or at times seemed to straight contradict himself. I'm not sure if he intended to commit "death by WoL" from the start, but he spent A LOT of time imparting information to the WoL about his people and setting up plans and events to trigger after his defeat for victory to have been his primary goal either.

Emet just calling Lahabrea an idiot does come off a bit strange after Shadowbringers, probably because even at that point they were still nailing down the details of everything for the expansion. But I think its more or less workable. Going by the short story, both him and Elidibus expected Laha to get himself killed eventually, they have really hammered in the lore that he was the one who deteriorated the most, both mentally and in power.

So Emet being so flippant about it is probably a mix of Emet having had centuries of expecting this very thing to happen, him trying to bury his own grief, and probably on some level at the very least just a little bit of genuine resentment bleeding through. Resentment of his peer for not holding it together like he had through all the Eon's. Leaving him more or less carrying all the weight himself.

Really, the more we learn about the Unsundered, the more it reads like alongside everything else, Emet had to spend a significant portion of time playing some manner of care taker for the other two. Having to work to keep your two mentally degrading comrades on task for Eon's would take a huge toll on anyone.

I always figured he was seriously depressed, which was why he enjoyed sleeping so much. Being something of a caretaker for the other two definitely wouldn't help either, I agree. I think there's a lot of stuff he said or did that was pure acting front, and that's hard to keep up for just a short time, let alone for the amount of time he did. It's not like he could really give us much more than that front for most of the time we-as-WoL interact with him, but there were some small moments where I definitely wished my cat could've used more words. #HugsforHades

Which both reveals but explains a failing of Emets, he was tired. The man kept taking really long naps, he'd gotten to the point where he'd wake up, make sure Lahabrea hadn't blown himself or a shard up, check that Elidibus remembered what year it was, make sure Danny and the others were on task and not up to anything funny, sigh that several of them were dead, raise new ones, not even bother to question who or why so many of them died this time, tell them to wake him in a few hundred years unless an emergency, set his alarm for "calamity" and sleep.
He just wanted to sleep more and more, as they slipped further so too did his grip and gaze.
