I disagree. I think it's more profitable for his brand to stick with what he knows. Venturing off into FFXIV would risk alienating his current viewership, so he'd have to approach that with care, especially since he's not quitting WoW any time soon (nor should he as he's hired people specifically to work on WoW contents for the foreseeable future).

It’s a really bad kind of toxic imo because they give the false pretense of it’s one of the friendliest communities ever, but give any critique to the game and you’re either marked as a troll, immensely hated, or both. In his case he was sent death threats and literally forced to quit the game. All because he said there should be more raid floors lmao.

From what I can gathered, there were two things that happened:

    1. Coming from WoW, he expressed interest in the Savage scene and wanted FFXIV to have more bosses per raid tier, and someone apparently sent a death threat to him.

    2. He apparently showed the death threat on stream and Twitch banned him temporarily for that since it's considered doxing. As far as I know, he was never forced to quit the game. However, since he was forced to quit streaming for a while, he's had to reevaluate on what to do moving forward and I guess he decided continuing to be a regular content creator was not it.

I could not get through the video because Michael is boring to listen to. But most of this drive for WoW content creators to come to play FF14 -- seems to be this idea of validation but to also have a larger content creator base (since FF14 content creators are rather limited).

Actually a part people tend to leave out, his own address was leaked, and someone threatened to leak it if he didn’t leave.

The more the merrier. Welcome them with open arms.
Unfortunately people aren’t very accepting of other communities. People have this mentality of WoW bad, WoW players bad, etc etc. Ironically, although i haven’t played wow, i’ve glanced at their forums and reddit and they don’t seem to bash this game nearly as hard as some of our community does which is...ironic.

I watched the whole video to get a better perspective of where he's coming from (and because clearing a map in Assassin's Creed is a very tedious affair).

If I were to sum it all up, I'd say he's slowly come to realize over time that Blizzard has lost its way; Blizzard reinvents great systems until they break, the game is in a constant state of beta as a result, and any time Blizzard fixes something that's all scattered to the wind when everything is remade for the next expansion. While we have problems with a very steady (and almost never surprising) content drip, Blizzard goes through boom and bust at random, and it's been more busts than booms for a long time.

Heck, if I were in his situation I'd be looking into alternatives as well-- content creator or no. I don't think validation has anything to do with it since XIV content creation is pretty low engagement across the board.

Perhaps he thinks he can do better than who we currently have, but I doubt that's the case. He'd be entering into a situation where his competition can have upwards of a decade of experience, and that doesn't sound anything like a calculated business plan.

Oof, that's a scary scenario to think about.

I would say that there are more FFXIV players who have played WoW than the other way around, so it would be less likely to be mentioned there.

That said, they seem to have more threads on FFXIV in the past year or so than this forum have on WoW, a lot of it just end up being moved to the off topic section. WoW mentions are mostly on the post level here rather than a thread specifically about WoW.

When I joined FF14 back at the start of Stormblood, I had so many nice people help me and I've only ever come across one person who was a gobshite in a "PUG" raid where you fought (Zenos?) .

What I have noticed is for EU (which is am in) seems to be very friendly, but it's seems the NA side of the English section of FF14 that has had a lot of bad experiences for a number of people?

Bellular being from Ireland is playing on the EU datacentre as he new employee is a FF14 vet, which is how he's been able to find a gateway into FF14.

I had found generally the attitude in FF14 to be very different to what I experienced in WoW, which I played off and on, until WotLK when I really got into the hardcore raiding side of things. WoW high end raiding or any raiding back them felt very pressured, where FF14 feels much more laid back, which I put down to how easy the telegraphs are in boss fights in FF14?

I wish we got the same attention to raids WoW gets here. Too much fluff content of no value.

I guess that's why the phrase "The end game of FF14 is the Glamour" is used a lot?
