I don't think it's anything that elaborate, personally, and it bears mentioning that the other translations of the game clarified that the "dreamer" is a distinct entity of its own.

Fandaniel's musing about Emet-Selch "finding a way" to do something suggests Zenos was tampered with somehow, and given the latter's tendency towards random sentiment when confronted with the nostalgic, I'm still leaning towards Zenos bearing a familiar soul and having been given memories of the Final Days out of a desire for him to in some small capacity be the person he once was.

It would also be a bit of an ironic twist if that brief moment of whimsy ends up nearly damning the world as I'm getting the impression those dreams of the Final Days are playing into Fandaniel's scheme somehow. Having someone with constant nightmares control a "dreamer" that has countless people under its thrall could be a perfect way to recreate the circumstances that led to the Final Days in the first place.

Not sure about having an individual who only has an emotional response of joy from killing be the perfect way to summon living nightmares. It would have to come from those under him , but they are only able to venerate Garlemald. Zenos is not afraid in those dreams at all. He seems in his element in fact.

Again, I don't think the dreamer is Zenos. I think Zenos is in fact the dream of the dreamer. Part of what caused the final days.

Just my opinion. Won't lose sleep if you don't like it.

Assuming the "you-know-what" and the dreamer are one and the same, it's safe to assume the thing is some manner of primal Zenos is able to control using his Echo, which by extension would make the Telophoroi and those trapped in the towers bend to his will as well.

The entity in question is strange for the fact that its victims were mentioned as not remembering anything after being cured, though, but if it has no real will or thoughts of its own and is acting more on pure instinct, it would just make it all the more easy to be used as a tool.

While we do know the towers are summoning primals and leeching aether from the land, I feel disinclined to think that's all they're doing with that ominous light and haze they're sending into the sky, and I feel like Zenos may be projecting his dreams of the Final Days onto the people trapped in the towers in order to forcibly recreate one of the conditions that heralded the world's end.

I think this too, and it goes back to what I said prior, as Emet said, whatever caused the final days, it caused their creation magic to run rampant and they made manifest their greatest fears, they created the terminus, now weather those were their fears, or whatever the "sound" was projecting into them what it wanted them to make, is another matter, but we lack the ability to do the same, but the towers + summoning + "you know what" + Zenos = close enough it seems.

The other alternative I could think of is Emet and co got it totally wrong, and they didn't manifest the terminus, they let them in, judging from Danny's crystal the "sound" might be able to "infect" people, if so perhaps if it can emass enough energy, back then it was the Ancients, today it's the towers sapping the land, it can rip open a portal to wherever it resides, perhaps it's end goal is to be "let in" and Zodiark stalled it and the sundering stopped it, for now at least.
