I can't remember it either, it was a long time ago since I played tho.

I remember playing three types of characters. The big hulky axe dude, the elegant elf lady, and a little fox dude lyn. I noticed a lot of the outfits had baggy pants and things like that when I played, nothing weird.
It's really not that deep, the lyns are just cute. I can't wrap my head around how people can actually be into that, it's too weird for me. I kinda view them the same way as lalafells in that they're the tiny cute race. Kinda makes me think if I'd like lalafell more if they had animal ears or something lol They would kind of look like ivalice moogles at that point which would be kind of nice as well.

That's just one I specifically remembered because they sold 2 versions of it, 1 with breasts and 1 without. Guess which was the most coveted?

But Bluehole was a lot worse with the chest and thigh sliders and lingerie yes lol

Not ALL costumes were like that certainly, but I feel like it did get worse over time as they leaned into it more because it made a lot of money.

They were the only race that was able to be a Summoner too so I'll never forgive them for making me feel like a weirdo playing one so I switched to a Yun SF lol

Anyway, we're kind of derailing the thread with this, but I think many devs shy away from races like that because they have kind of a stigma for this reason.

He said they would be like elezen and miqo'te, and that much is true. They do resemble both races, much like female viera did. However, he did not clarify their height. At all. That is still up in the air.

With FF12, there are only female Viera appearing in the game. Due to that, we have no design references for the male versions. If we did create a male design for the Viera, he would be quite elegant, handsome, and slim. He would look more like the Elezen race, but with bunny ears.

I don't recall how he worded any references to miqo'te so the source would be appreciated, since I wonder if he means how their animations track those of felines. Certainly though, the above is suggestive of Elezen being a primary inspiration.

- Male Viera are an original creation of the FF14 team
- We based a lot lot lot of art work on Female Viera and paid attention to running Male Viera alongside that concept, but also kept in mind to differentiate them from Male Miqote
- We WILL introduce Female Hrothgar at some point
- Male Viera are rare, but I don't want to say they will never appear as NPCs, but if they do we will make sure it fits the setting, but there is no village/town with a huge Male Viera population

So, doesn't matter their height etc. Their lore is strictly for FF14, nothing else. Being added for the fans only, lore to come later. so, make then tiny, big, whatever if lore isn't going to matter. While at it though, let us make other races taller female side, eh? EH?! hehe

Technically, yes. If male Viera are similar in height to male Miqo'te, the differentiation would be reduced.

However, I don't think the male Viera will be in Miqo'te height range. I say this for a couple of reasons. First, it's the statements that Yoshida has made regarding the design for male Viera. Second, the observations made from the male Viera in the trailer.

I've seen these notes floating around a bit, but I never found out where exactly they're from. Are they from the keynote? Just wondering.

The only quotes that I'm familiar with regarding Yoshi's vision and design direction for male Viera are these that were stated in 2019 (around the release of Shadowbringers).

I think it's safe to say that, by considering Yoshi's quotes about the design for male Viera, as well as what we see in the final product, that male Viera will be on the "taller side".

I posted this image in the main Viera thread, but I figured it would be good to share it here as well.


I would say that the male Viera we saw in the trailer are faithful to the concept art that we saw back in Heavensward.

I don't think the male Viera will be taller than male Elezen, but I think they'll be close to it.

Thank you! I went ahead and watched the video. He begins talking about male Viera right at 6 minutes in.

Mr. Happy mentions that they referred to the female Viera art a lot because they didn't just want to make a "tall Miqo'te".

So the way I'm interpreting this is that the team didn't want to simply make a mish-mash of races to create the new male demirace. They didn't just want to put Miqo'te faces on Elezen bodies, slap on bunny ears, and call it a day. They want male Viera to feel unique.

It seems to me that the reason why they referred to the female Viera art a lot was so they could really point out the features that make Viera unique and distinct so they don't end up just making, as Mr. Happy said, "tall Miqo'te".

So I think male Viera will be taller than Miqo'te, but that's not going to be the only distinction between male Viera and male Miqo'te. I think that's the main point they're trying to make.
