Do you mean the aetherial rift? I recall the old MSQ ARR 2.4 patch mentioning how "Lahabrea is able to use a Crystal of Darkness to flee into the space that lies between our world and the void". The void they are talking about is the 13th shard. The space that lies between is the Aetherial rift. Nabriales also brought us to the Aetherial Rift in the trial "The Chrysalis". SoS also mentions how time and time again, the Ascians are forced to retreat back to the rift during the transition phase.

No. The Void is the Void (the 13th). Ascians use the Aetherial Rift, which is not the same thing.

Here is a question tho. Will Reaper have party utility or will it be pure DPS like SAM? DRG buffs crit. NIN and MNK buff Damage. Maybe Reaper will have a NIN like debuff. Maybe we'll get lucky and it'll be the one melee without positionals. (I say we but I mean I lol.)
