The inns were made from incomplete content from the previous team, and they are freely useable. The residences we will get in the future require work to obtain and will have many more features. in the mean time, It's been a long time since you could stay at an inn in any final fantasy game.
Player
A residence is just where you live. It is not necessarily privately owned property. We now reside at the Inn, rather then on the street corner by Bric-a-Brac.
We are getting a Player Residence in 1.21. We will get an alternative type of Player Residence in 2.0.

Right! As interim content this should be easy and offer less value. That's the point, offer an easy entry mode to a place to stay, then as you work for it you get the good stuff.
Well i wasnt talking about inns, i was talking about house
U suck big time
We were able to get a few more questions answered about the upcoming inns!
There will be decorated layouts that are designed specifically for each city-state's inn, but players won't be able choose Gridania's decorations while residing in Ul'dah's inn for example. Each layout will only be available within the city-state that they are from. Will there be different layouts in different cities? Will players be able to choose specific layouts that they prefer?
Yup! The proof is in the banner too! You'll be able to sit down on the bed if you feel like relaxing. Will players be able to interact with furniture? (Beds, chairs, etc.)
Retainers and other players won't be able to enter the inns. Will there be a retainer bell inside and will we be able to invite other players into our inn?
