I did not play any of the nier games so no I had no expectation about that...what I did expect though is at least a good story. For me it was not even near that. We spent a lot of the time with a NPC that turns out to be a traitor and the "real" ones are barely even there. Somehow we just accept that the boy who attacked us is now nice and kind to us and as soon as he is awake they kinda already disappear again.

For all the talk about how awesome Yoko Taro is, I am a bit shocked at what we got at the end. And those weekly quest also dont really help either. Most of the information from the letters is stuff we already could find out ourselves and we barely did anything with the strange behaviour of their leader.

Not even that - we barely spend any time with 2P either, and most of it is just traversing the factory and getting the most basic level of exposition from her. Certainly not enough for her betrayal to hurt in any way. And yeah, we barely spent any time with the supposed main crossover characters - they barely spoke to us in the Puppets' Bunker chapter, were entirely absent for the interlude, and didn't talk to us at the tower either except for guiding us through and several variations of "ignore the machines, they don't have feelings" - and this after all three raids have had nothing but dialogue from the machines and "puppets" being angry at us for killing their friends.

Talking of the puppets, they're such a weird non-plot point. They crash their spaceship on us, emerge from the wreckage dressed in black, immediately turn white like it should be some kind of revelation, and retreat into the bunker where we just fight them because.

There's just no personality from start to finish - and then 2B's departing message says she'll remember the time we spent together and I'm just...what? What time? I don't even feel like I know you at this point.
