That isn't the only thing I noticed now that you highlighted it. Zenos's weapon has a curved, flared handle indicating it is to be gripped near the end. That is not the handle of a polearm, they are gripped in the center. That kind of handle is typical of scimitars:

It is also the kind of handle found on early muskets and Garlean gunblades:

Yep! it makes a lot of sense for zenos to pick up the garlean gunblade. This isn't to say we won't get a scythe wielder! Just means Zenos probably won't be the scythe wielder if we do get that kind of job.

Yeah, it fits with the animation and sound effect. It is about the right height. Handle looks pretty close to what we see leaning on the chair. Fandaniel would not have expected it since Zenos switched from the gunblade to the katana in Stormblood. And it would be appropriate for the de facto ruler of Garlemald to wield a Garlean weapon. So it fits the dialog.
