Interesting thread.

If FFXIV was the same game with a different name and had no association with the franchise, I would have turn away at launch.

But we know of Final Fantasy's reputation to make some of the best games ever made.

And its with that thought, that we know for a fact that they will turn this into something really special.

We're not quite there yet, but we've come far.

I came here because I enjoyed FFXI, and I enjoy most of the Final Fantasy games.
I stay here because I have faith that SE will do the game well (as they have for 11).

I would not do another fantasy based MMORPG as it is the Final Fantasy lore that I actually like (nor would I do a non-FF SE game as again, I like the Final Fantasy universe).

Game, i am tired to test lots of MMO and FFXI and FFXIV have a different aura, they are totally diferent. And sure, i come coz the name, but because the name means is a different MMO.

Bit of both I think, when I first picked it up I had just been playing other Final Fantasy games, saw it going cheap and decided that it was worth a go - if it was called 'Defenders of Eorzea' or something similar I would likely not looked at it twice, particularly after such a poor reception on launch.

That said if they changed the name now to something of the like I would be confused as to why but keep playing, I've dabbled with other MMOs since picking XIV up but at the end of the day they all have the same problem; they're not Final Fantasy XIV.

How much weight does the Final Fantasy name carry?

If it wasn't called Final Fantasy I would have passed. I play FFXIV because of the great game it is and even though we need to wait for things from SE sometimes atleast we get it unlike most other games.

The game is the name, if it was called different it wouldnt have chocobos moogles cid airship crystal drama . . . You get my point if th games wasent called ffxiv, it would be a different game.

I believe....that I'm loyal to the name. If I were limited to one company, I'd nominally choose Square-but I'm pretty loyal to the game as well. I stuck with FFXI for years, and loved it. FFXIV is gorgeous, and has tremedous promise; enough to hold out for more.

when FFXIV got first announced i was happy to hear about a new MMO in the FF series and was expecting a game of the same or better quality as FFXI.
as i don't enjoy most of the mmo's currently on the market, be it foreign,f2p or p2p, and also not looking forward to any mmo's in this case (besides PSO2) i'm still with FFXIV even tho i don't enjoy it as much as i wish to.

the name and 2.0 are my biggest reasons that i'm still with the game, but if 2.0 proves to be another flop i'd probably never look back to the game.

I would say I'm a little loyal to the name. But I would say being a fan of FF11 and seeing a new MMO come out by SE I for sure would have tried it out. Mostly because I do sometimes miss FF11.
