Are you loyal to the game?
Or are you loyal to the name?
Would you still play if the game was called Omega Odyssey or Online Adventures in Eorzea?
How much weight does the Final Fantasy name carry?

I enjoy playing the game a little more each update. Although, I admit, it is the name that got me to play it originally.
I bought this game because it was the next MMO in the series after loving 11. If it was named something else.. i wouldn't of preordered and i likely would of read the reviews after the horrible launch and never gave it a second thought.

Interesting thread.
If FFXIV was the same game with a different name and had no association with the franchise, I would have turn away at launch.
But we know of Final Fantasy's reputation to make some of the best games ever made.
And its with that thought, that we know for a fact that they will turn this into something really special.
We're not quite there yet, but we've come far.
Depends, was it the same game made by Square Enix, but only changing the title? If so, yes. I would have likely not have heard of the game until post-release though.
I really have no idea if I would have been interested if it had been called something else.
I play a lot of MMO's and am always looking for the next best thing, so there is a possibility I would have.
If this game wasn't called Final Fantasy the chances are that SE would have scrapped it a long time ago though.
I hate to admit it but I think I'm loyal to the name. There are other games that are looking to be just as aesthetically pleasing as XIV but I don't see myself playing those, and that's really the only standout factor for XIV at this time in my opinion. The name is what keeps me thinking it will become better, but paraphrasing Blitz, if the game were to have gotten the reviews that it did and wasn't Final Fantasy, I don't think I would have stuck through it. Version 2.0 will be the make or break time for me.
I am loyal to the name and the game, I wouldn't be here if I weren't. That doesn't mean I don't rip my hair out from time to time over this game, lol.
Couldn't have said it better myself.
I loved and played XI so couldn't WAIT for XIV. Funny thing is, my ex-wife was the one who got me to play XI. xD
I would say im loyal to the game and the company, as I enjoy most SE games (not including eidos, as they are often not my type of game). If it was named a different name I would still have gone for it as it was made by SE and after enjoying xi for so many years, I wouldn't want to miss on there next one.
