Glamour option to remove tails

What I don't understand is why would anyone be against this.. if you don't want to use it then it doesn't affect you.

Every feature addition affects everyone, even if it's an optional feature that people can turn off, because (1) they program everything to be able to handle it as if everyone's using it, and (2) because it affects what other decisions they're willing or even able to make regarding the engine, memory structure, and volume of data access and transfer.
