Idea for venues

It's the Mortal Kombat days again, when parents would storm Gamestop and give crap to the minimum wage store clerks for selling the game. Nvm the kids circumvented by having another older kid from the neighborhood buy the game for them or miraculously convincing their own parents thay the game was "mild".

Regardless, all this is irrelevant really. No one is ever going to convince SE to change their TOS for ERPers and their brothel venues in the same way no one's gonna convince Yoshi-P to build official parsers for the game. You'd think people would've learned this reality by now but here we are...

This particular discussion is actually not like that...at all. Nobody is asking people to be responsible for other people’s kids. This also isn’t about the actual content that the game itself provides, which is adequately rated and parents absolutely should know what that entails.

What is being asked of ERPers is that they have accountability for their actions to and around minors. FFXIV asks that its players behave accordingly while sharing a space with minors, and this includes not openly advertising sex services in shared spaces where they are present (PF, shout, etc). That’s it. And for some reason E/RPers seem to think this is such a huge ask and wants to play like they are the victim adult just trying to have a good time while The Prudes and Karens persecute them.

Some people here need to get a grip.

I didn't make a direct connection here but here it is: asking ERPers to have that accountability is a lost cause. They're never going to take it. SE is already doing its job so it's going to have to be entirely on parents to watch and protect their kids. Like the Mortal Kombat days, don't get fooled by your kids about what they're doing online and who are they interacting with until they're old enough to burn their own hands if they don't listen. Asking and hoping ERPers will see the light of their actions is pointless. And at least, in MK's case, the video game industry finally regulated themselves, not because they had a change of conscience but because they were allowed to do so. There's no "regulating" for ERPers themselves in FF14 because that alternative simply means they become "clean" RPers instead. Which, I'm fairly certain, is not their aim.

You’re right about that. As shown by the fact that they keep coming here to to cry and try to get their way every time they get thrown in gaol. Or ask the dev team to spend resources making them their own tab like that’s going to stop their brothels from being reported.. I’m so tired of people coming here to cry about “white knighting” and pearl clutching when all they are being asked is to please keep their clothes on in the Applebees.

Tbh I get what you are saying but the reality is we do not have a place irl that mimics online interactions. So the Applebee’s comparison nor does any irl comparison match. Think that was the one of the points of the poster we need to adjust for the ever evolving times within this digital age it is not as simple of as things were in the past.

Tbh I get what you are saying but the reality is we do not have a place irl that mimics online interactions. So the Applebee’s comparison nor does any irl comparison match. Think that was the one of the points of the poster we need to adjust for the ever evolving times within this digital age it is not as simple of as things were in the past.

While I agree that online interactions aren’t as black and white, the way I look at it is this:

SE owns and establishment (FFXIV servers) where it asks its patrons (players) to behave according to certain standards. We sign to agree to these standards before ever stepping foot inside. Some players decide they want to wild out anyway, and get reprimanded (strike) or asked to leave (suspension/ban/whatever). But instead of just understanding that that is not the kind of environment SE wants to foster and not doing it, they instead claim they are being unfairly persecuted by the owners and other patrons. They ask “please open up section where it is totally okay for me to behave the way you have asked me not to, because I am going to do it anyway”.

In this case the kind of environment SE does not want to encourage is an unregulated sexual one. So they do what they can to mitigate that by keeping it out of PF. ERPers need to accept that.

RP tag is totally fine. I actually think it’s a good idea. But venues openly advertising adult services are still going to get reported or taken down by a GM, even if they have their own tab.

I get that and to a degree I do not think are against the notion of SE enforcing their rules but the part I think we as a community also need to accept is while we can try to mitigate the less the desirable interactions we will never fully be rid of it and it is far easier to control our own behavior instead of trying to police others. I get the idea behind it, but this 18+ hunt just divides the community further, which personally sucks.

I think the idea behind the tab is out of sight out of mind, and to a degree maybe less would be reported outside of those that actively seek them out to report their behavior.

On a side note it always amazes me how different mmo communities are especially when it comes to certain things. How a similar genre of game can foster wildly differing views regarding similar topics.
