Can I just get this on record: These are active hate crimes at this point. SE's own arbitration rules in ToS are unable to protect them from this since you cannot arbitrate illegal activity. They have a lot of potential lawsuits at their front door with that number only growing each day they let this go.

I highly doubt people being targeted by this will find a lawyer willing to take this case. While SE cannot arbitrate a player would have to go the civil route since no one will take this as a criminal case. As a civil matter SE has the funding to drain the funds even if they went down the class action side SE most likely could if they wanted out last the player side.

From what I gathered, this player spams the NN and leaves immediately. Do they even stay to look at the comments? This thread is one of the main sources for them I'd say, ironically.

I don't know, they'd have to have it stationed on all Aether NNs. I suppose they could see the aftermath late, still. I do know they have supposedly directly linked this thread before, and called out some users here.

I have seen other instances where a Japanese video game company would either ban in-game chat (think of how hard it is to have voice chat or send messages to people with Nintendo Switch Online) or remove the online forums entirely if they were consistently abused.

Would we reach the point in FFXIV where there is no longer a Novice Network? Would that be the only way to stop the problem? If this awful person can continually make alts and jump worlds and evade an IP ban & payment method ban, I don't see any other way to stop the toxicity.

As somebody else mentioned, we take hate speech & hate crimes seriously in America. If this were to blow up on social media, Square Enix would have quite a headache on their hands! In their defense, I don't see a way to fix the problem, other than removing the NN for some worlds or all worlds.

The solution is simple.

1. Add a short timeout period between messages in NN, probably even half a second works over nothing.

2. Make macros not work in NN. Would help with MT'ed macros in NN and while there are legitimate uses for macros in NN, they are very far and few between and can be taken over by manual typing.

3. Have a system keep track of who is inviting who, even if the info is only accessible to GMs.
