Viera and Hrothgar Megathread

It's probably less of an issue with Hrothgar, so I guess I'd be okay if this was the way they went with it. For Viera players it might be a bit more awkward because of their ears.

When I saw that, I was like: "Not like this!".. When I thought of hats for viera I never thought cutting off the ears would have been a valid choice, but SE is SE, I suppose.

Hrothgar, the difference in head shapes may be an issue. I'd have to check, but I think the dimensions actually vary, so that may be an issue for more open faced headgear. One model might not work for them all. While viera just have like a typical round head with floating ears or whatever, and someone shared a screenshot recently of it. Anyway, you close the visor here with viera, or really at a glance, they are just hyurs without those ears. Not to mention it's really jarring to think about, if people thought it was bad that miqo'te aren't getting ear holes, or even ear socks anymore! Viera have gigantic ears!

I fully agree with the sentiments stated here wondering why the Devs have been so tight lipped about it. Like do they expect us to just forget about it, whilst every new patch brings new hats/hairstyles for every other race besides Viera/Hrothgar? It just breeds contempt and anger, and that’s on the devs, not the players for expecting something they promised. It would do them a world of favour to do a little bit of PR on this and just say “Hey, sorry there’s been no exclusive Viera hairstyles yet (which we said we’d give) or additions for Hrothgar, we haven’t forgotten you and we’re working on it.” That alone would quell much of the anger and impatience, for myself included.

I fully agree with this. Just a simple statement would do so much. I honestly feel like we've been forgotten about and like, no one wants to feel that way, c'mon

2B and 9S hairstyles added today, that's 9 so far, and apparently a side ponytail was recently datamined so that's soon to be 10 new hairstyles for the other races and a whooping 0 for Hroths and Viera /joy

I already tossed a like in here the night this was made but was too tired to post.

The expansion is almost over and there hasn't been a peep from SE regarding head issues for the new races since that one comment in the beginning of the expansion about more viera specific hair coming. Meanwhile the pre-ShB races have gotten loads of new hairstyles during the expansion while a global pandemic has been going on for an enormous chunk of its duration.

There is just no excuse for the deafening silence on the matter. If SE have time to release so much head related content to the pre-ShB races even during a pandemic, then they have time to at least make a statement regarding viera and hrothgar head options.

I was not expecting to get see new head options for viera or hrothgar shortly after that lone comment was made, but I also wasn't expecting to endure almost two years of utter silence on the topic.

We didn't even get tossed a different bone like "sorry we can't give you new hair yet but here are some more tattoos" or "adjusting the old hats would make you wait too long so here are some viera and hrothgar specific hats for you to enjoy".

And as if the above isn't bad enough, the Valentines/Little Ladies event had only two rewards, and the only glam piece was a hat that viera and hrothgar can't use. Hats aren't even particularly associated with either of those events. They could have given a glam reward for literally any slot, and the headgear didn't even need to be a hat...but no they chose the one thing that entirely excludes two races. It's as if they forgot those two races exist.

I have tremendous respect for SE as a whole, they made so many games that have been long time favourites of mine, including this game. Their staff are truly gifted in storytelling, music, art and game mechanic design. I have so much admiration for the FFXIV team in particular for defying the odds and reviving this game from the dumpster fire that was 1.0 and turned it into a masterpiece. And this is why I'm so frustrated. I know they can do better, I have seen it countless times.

I cannot understand what there is to gain from making players feel forgotten when just a small statement along the lines of "it won't be soon but it is coming, we haven't forgotten" would do so much to give people hope and more patience to wait.

I have tried to be patient but the longer this silence lasts the thinner it gets. It is not too much to ask for some manner of response after already waiting for most of an expansion. I can wait until 6.0 for more head options, I can even wait until patches after that...but only if SE tell us that there is something to wait for. Because of how the situation has been handled for so long many of us are doubting that SE still have any intention to do something. I am very disappointed.

And please no one tell me to not be surprised about the lack of head options, I am not surprised by that. I am surprised by SE's extremely long dead silence and then making decisions about event rewards as if viera and hrothgar don't exist. I expected better than being made to feel as if my chosen race is entirely forgotten.

Also, they don’t even have an asterisk on the Aesthetician hairstyles, to say that Viera/Hrothy can’t use it. Makes me wonder how many new players bought one of those, only to find they don’t work

I definitely expect some disparity, and I am relatively happy with my Hrothgar, my main complaint is the way their bodys are built makes some of the 'chunkier' armors make em look more fat than anything, but it is somewhat irritating how limited some of my headgear options are.

I really don't want to come across as upset with them. I think they did a really good job overall, but the hair thing is annoying. "Sameface" Hrothgar with the same hair-head combo are way too common compared to other species, I literally have started collecting pics of 'doplegangers' of mine who also share the color.

I don't think they need to do a lot, just little things to help out Hrothgar and Viera while COVID makes any big work weird. Hats too hard? Hair not in a good spot? Fine. Make Hrothgar get the ability to toggle a walking animation to hunch less, walk cycles aren't hard. Re-rig the Hrothgar's weapons because ho-boy the fact that they jitter so much bugs me. Make it so that for the Hrothgar you can also change your head during a haircut. Add new fur colors and patterns, there are plenty clearly missing! New race only hats, shoes, and gloves would be neat too.

Just a little something that shows A: they are still aware about and care about the disparity, and B: are committed to continued support, even if they can't ever bring it to full parity. Just little things that show they are still thinkin bout us.

The amount of effort I need to be happy here is shockingly low. Like amazingly so. "Hey your ears flick a bit now like the other cat race and the Monsterhunter quests now correctly note your ALSO a talking cat" levels of effort.

It's definitely not the most elegant solution, but if it's this or making it invisible again I think I'll take this.

At least players get a bit of choice here and can hide it completely if they don't like how it hides the ears.

The moment I saw that 2B's hairstyle was added I was like DDDDDDDDDDD, then I remembered I play Viera and was like ((((((((((((((((((((.
