If you ignore it at a lower level. it will continue. If you don't want to do the content. don't queue for it. I get its easy. as I said. I'd like to get out of it faster too, and watching them play like they clearly don't care. I'm going to say something. Why? Cause I can. Alternatively. I can keep my mouth shut and let it fester instead. Not healthy. I should ignore it.. I know I should. But... can't. I see it.. and I can't stop seeing it.
The only better times I -think- it would be wise to speak up is when their drawbacks are leading into a disastrous wipes (i.e. performing mechanics horribly, not meeting dps check, a healer spamming their basic healing spell in lv60+, mitigation-less tanks); and when the said player clearly admitting they’re struggling or asking for advices. Otherwise in such content, they can do their own thing and I’ll do mine.

While I can understand the urge and frustration, personally I really feel it’s not worthy of the trouble we may have to deal with their (very likely) negative response & possible white knighting from a fellow party mates, especially when a content is already very faceroll-ish (I assumed you were including my most recent expert roulette story when you referred it).

Anyway, staying on topic... last night’s Aurum Vale for a little bit of tomestone as an AST. Matched with a WAR, RDM, & DRG.
As usual, few groans and disappointment at the start of dungeon. But we still decide to move regardless. The WAR seemed to be rather clueless how to navigate through the first room and ended up drawing more packs than an average group would: 4 pack + 1 big frog. Good thing the two DPSes were AoEing as best as they could. I kept the WAR alive & they responded “Sorry, fat fingered.”

Crisis averted The rest of dungeon went pretty smoothly. I bet I’ll have and going to see more AV stories now that moogle tomestone is a thing for a while.

Normally when I post I have a story to go with whatever it is.. But with this picture I felt it wasn't needed.. AT ALL...
Colours: PLD MT= Blue. OT(Me) = Light Blue. Healer 1 = Dark green. Healer 2 = Light green. and Red= is the only of the dps who said anything and or died.

At first I thought it was a cute intro.. till the fight started and HOLY CRAP....

PS. this actually happened last night but my editing skills suck. so it took me a bit to get around to it.

That is obnoxious. lol I hate when players tie literally everything they do to a macro. They really, REALLY need to take their roleplay to echo so they can still see it...but the rest of us don't have to.

It will continue regardless - that's the problem. Even if someone was to call another out, if they have a reaction like the player in your story, I highly doubt they will change their behavior, rather they will only continue to do it! For that matter, a player has to be VERY careful when they call someone else out. It's very easy to get reported and banned for doing so. Most of the time it's just not worth it. Like it or not.

Reminds me of when I had a ninja in LotA (Back a few months after ShB was added). they did it to ALL their skills, but it went into alliance chat instead of say. I'm no ninja in fact its my worst class to play. But APPARENTLY he was playing badly by what people in alliance were saying as they read what he was doing. No Suiton or Trick Attack was seen, is the only part I remember being pointed out often.

To the Red Mage who used Vercure on herself the very instant she took any damage at all, even raidwides: why.

Trial Roulette: Chrysallis, paired with 5 first timer sprouts.
First time ever using healer LB3 rather than to DPS LB3 the tear because for some reason after being told to leave the meteors to tanks, bunch of them just decide they think they should take the meteor pads together and suddenly everybody was dead but the one invuln'ed MT and myself.

See though, it only seems to require zero effort, because so many people are putting in a decent effort.

As far as my own DF story today goes, I actually queued for the three Ivalice raids to get a Vexatious Memory for that stage of my first SHB relic. I hadn't seen one since my 4th drop, and it'd been going on 2.5 hours. Anyway, Rabanastre comes up. I suppose it's the most popular one to spam because it takes a few minutes less? Anyway, none of the tanks wanted to tank and a MCH in my party kept rushing in and shooting the boss with Reassemble + Drill, then putting in alliance chat, "I am not the tank! Tanks, tank!" We were ally B, and our tank was from the same server as the MCH, so I'm assuming they were buddies. Our tank never turned on Royal Guard once. The alliance C GNB starts going off, "I'll turn on my tank stance if <insert stupid thing here>." The things ranged from Alliance C being last to the rotating platform before the slide to Rovocale to eating his shorts. Alliance A tank rogered up and tanked each boss, but our MCH was still getting there before them and pulling with Direct Crit Drill.

Gear and DPS effort outweighed the silliness, but all in all, it just made me want to mute alliance chat.

Also nowadays tank problems made me miss when tanks used to really jocky for hate, and it was an actual showdown rather than a sour provoke at the right time thing that it is when it does occur now. I'd rather have my tanks fighting to tank than refusing to as if their role lets them be a diva.

Not really, no. In order to fail during an ST run and wipe the entire raid all 24 players would have to actively try to screw it up. Amon might be the exception with his Curtain Call ability, but most of the time that is a non issue. The only times I've ever wiped on that boss in recent memory was when there was little to no ice present when it began to cast Curtain Call, since people kept melting them with the frogs. It is that braindead easy now with how much we out gear it since most of the mechanics that mattered can be skipped, and usually are. ARR's content did not scale well with item level increases.

If most people walked in playing like that BLM, then even in our over geared situation, mechanics would have to be performed. I'm sure minimum DPS checks would be met, but again, things that seem braindead easy only seem that way because most people do put in a modicum of effort. I haven't been in Syrcus Tower in recent memory where the majority of people weren't there to blitz everything as fast as possible and get it done, compared to zoning out or any other thing.

So much more than gear has changed too, you know. Direct Hit and potencies. Critical hit's critical damage ramping. Rotations are simpler, and even simpler when synced to 50. It's easier than ever to put in effort, and when effort's easy to put in, then people haven't got a lot of problem putting it in, usually. In fact, in Syrcus Tower, since we're allowed to overperform, most people do. By that, I mean, since we over gear it so severely, many people choose to ignore damage telegraphs and other mechanics wholesale in favor of doing damage. In this way, any rotation, however poor, is enhanced.

Some people even get onto others for actually doing the mechanics. Taking the thunder balls to the charge pads is unnecessary, standing in the second boss's charging bit fields is unnecessary, and not much is necessary. This gives most everyone a sense of ease, and so no one overthinks what's going on and everything just gets deleted. Almost everyone greeds the boss, and they die unimaginably fast compared to days of yore.

It's not the type of effort that takes a lot of thought, but the effort is there, nonetheless. I admit it's a technicality, but it's true. There are almost always enough overperformers in a Syrcus Tower run that under performers are generally only noticed with an eye that can scrutinize what they are doing. If most people weren't putting in that simple effort, you'd notice, and it'd likely be memorable.
