I think it would be nice to have the option to turn off XP gain for those who don't want it. If you like getting bonus XP, (I'd fall into this camp btw) you won't be affected at all.
With the stat squish coming, levelling is going to get even faster in the near future and if being able to slow things down is going to please some players and make them more likely to stay subbed, then I can't see an issue.

I was a PLD at level 30. I know how to level a job as on my previous account I had all but AST, SAM and RDM capped. Your reply has nothing to do with anything I said but I appreciate the passive aggression anyway bud.

    Edit:
Yeah MSQ would have given me some gear but also massively compounded the exp problem. Not really a solution then.

Unless you're going to keep buying MSQ boost, you're going to have to do the MSQ anyway to unlock further dungeons. It's really the best solution to your gearing problem.

And if you are going to keep boosting through the MSQ, then leveling dungeons gives one guaranteed gear now every run and you can also earn poetics. Also, those boosts should come with gil, so you can buy vendor gears as well at strategic moments of your choosing.

I'm more than happy to do Heavensward and onwards, looking forward to it in fact. It was just ARR I didn't want to do again. The problem I found was I didnt get gear anything like fast enough from dungeons because after one run I'd be on to the next and roulette groups tend to want to go straight to bosses rather than clear side rooms and stuff for extra chests. The 300k didn't last very long either to be honest.
I just want to mention though that I'm not whining about it, I solved it by putting my last 60k into crafting when I realised I couldn't afford to gear up much more. I'm also level 53 now so can just get poetics gear now which I know lasts a good while.
My original post was just to empathise a little with the op and to point out that exp can actually be too fast at times which surprised me as well as a returning player.

Maybe, but as you've seen, it's a situation with an easy solution. You could even just continue to spam the previous dungeon if you're unable to meet the next dungeon's item level and you don't want to buy/craft gear as leveling dungeon should be getting you one guaranteed gear now at the end of every run.

The guaranteed drop is nice and as a tank you can obviously need anything you actually need which did help. I did think about replaying some dungeons but was worried I would just skip further ahead, I skipped 2 or 3 anyway as it was common to gain 3 levels on a roulette run.
Im lucky really because I had crafting experience and could remember a few solid money making synths in the level 25-30 range so I just did those and got my game back on track.

The people this could really effect are first time players who experiment a bit with jobs and blow that 300k. In future if I end up in Stone Vigil with a tank who's gear is 20 levels out of date I might have a little more insight into how that happens. It took a concerted effort and some experience for me to not end up in that position.

Actually, if you're worried about gears, I wouldn't use the roulette. I would queue up for a dungeon manually and then move to the next dungeon when I'm ready.

I get that, its a good idea but what tempted me to use it was actually the company seals bonus for role in need. I thought if I could level up in rank I might be able to get some gear from there but I didnt manage to level it fast enough to help gear my first job. I didn't really fancy FATE gringing for seals so went the crafting route instead. At least I can get some for my next jobs.

I will say the exp bonus is absurd for crafting, so all is well that ends well I guess. On some of my crafts I could get from 1 to 22-23 in 20 minutes including job quests, it was crazy. As it counts for quests and leves I was getting nearly 2 million exp for one synth in the 40's on Weaver. Was mental lol. Im definitely going to make the most of that while it lasts and get all of them to 70.

Additional point, if groups don't want to full clear, and you're already running as tank anyway, just go back after you finish the dungeon and bull rush your way to all the chests. Personally, I love backtracking and picking up chests everyone forgot after they all leave. Slightly less fun in ARR runs with the side routes, but eh, so what if you die? Just pick yourself back up and on to the next.
