I like to help people. This translates quite well into the healer role. I think that just about sums it up...

To heal as little as possible while keeping everyone alive and maximizing my DPS cooldowns and being able to adapt to the needs of a fight on the fly. ‘Pure healers’ excel in that reactive role but I find SCH to be far more engaging from a design and tuning standpoint barring some really bad numbers and QoL on a minority of their kit. I value the skill expression far more than my actual output and would rather see more trade offs and synergy between elements of the kit compared to what it has now. I’d prefer it if all healers had a higher focus on the DPS elements within their kits for the next expansion.

I realise I mainly come here to offer feedback in the way of criticisms and suggestions and I think there's a truth in that people tend to only speak up when they're not happy and well, I think the purpose of the thread is fair, because hey, none of my feedback of what I liked came out until they took what I felt was too much away.

So I'll cover what I do like.
I enjoy when I'm being pushed to heal, when I've got to think about how I am using pieces of my tool kit and how they work together. There are some fights or some situations where you might end up doing that.
I also like feeling as though I am helping, there is a satisfaction in pulling a party through content that might otherwise be challenging and feeling like your contribution is important.
I also like finding the balance between DPS and healing, I like that we have a combination of healing and DPS and that we have some responsibility to contribute as part of the overall DPS. It was something I used to love in FFXI playing SCH there, I'd be in a position where I could provide both as and when needed.
Carries as a healer can feel rewarding, although people rarely commend you or recognise you for it, except maybe people who know what their healers did. Whilst we healers bemoan suicidal groups there is a sense of pride in stopping said people killing themselves and pulling the group from the clutches of a wipe. I find most of my healer commendations come from mediocre play, because normally that's when things are going smoothly.
Helping people out in the sense say, you've got newbies or people less confident at tanking or doing content in general, keeping them and everybody alive whilst they get their feet can be nice too.
And I guess er, being a queue boost has its perks. Like see a friend struggling to get a queue and being able to almost instantly get them a pop. Tanks probably enjoy this too.
I sometimes enjoy playing AST specifically because I feel busy with the weaving of cards between DPS and healing, I like things like that. If I managing mechanics ontop of that, even better.

There are other things about healing I enjoy that used to be in this game, but in the spirit of this thread, I won't include them, because I will have complained about them elsewhere.

I like saving the party. Not just casting tons of over heal for minimal damage per se but hardcasting a rez or three when the party should have wiped and helping them limp along to a clear feels great. Being able to turn dire situations around is what I find most appealing as a healer. A clutch rescue, limit break, or a perfectly timed mitigation are what make me hype to heal.

For those moments where you're learning content, there's no RDM/SMN in the group, the other healer has DC'd, your Swiftcast is on CD, and the run is going to sh!t.

You then proceed to stabilize everything, solo heal everything, complete the trial and get zero comms.

Veteran healers don't care if we need to heal, but right now we don't. We want interesting things to do during the downtime other than a 30s dot and a single filler spell that hasn't changed from lvl 4 to lvl 90.
Dead DPS do no DPS. Raised DPS do 25/50% lower DPS. Do the mechanics and don't stand in bad stuff.
Other games expect basic competence, FFXIV is pleasantly surprised by it. Other games have toxic elitism. FFXIV has toxic casualism.[/LIST]

Because when healing we've all probably had that 'save the party/run' moment and gotten no thanks/recognition afterwards. We're shaking in front of our keyboards with the adrenalin still coursing with a reward screen popup, feeling amazing, and then...silence

I remember back in Gordias, during A1S. We were approaching the part of the fight where the party takes a huge raidwide, both tanks get bustered, two other party members get a Prey marker (and need a Cure 2's worth of healing in the middle of the multi-hit or they'll die), and then another raidwide. And 5 seconds before this mini phase started, my cohealer disconnected. I somehow managed to whip out enough Benediction Swiftcast Cure 2 Tetra Medica 2 fury that the party survived. And then we died to the next phase because I was out of MP and almost had a heart attack, but I felt like a superhero for just a little bit.

Temperance (+20% healing) > Asylum (+10% healing) > POM > Thin Air, CURE 3 SPAM!!

You are a literal healing god for 10s

Hmm. Well, I’ve always liked playing healers in this game because I like balancing healing and damage-dealing. When I first started playing healers, we still had OG Cleric Stance. Since it swapped your MND and INT stat, it required some thought and proper juggling to ensure that you could both keep your party alive and deal a decent amount of damage. I kind of miss it, to be honest.

My favorite healer has always been AST. I enjoyed its hybrid nature, even if it was a burden on the job itself, and I loved the card system. Even the animations were attractive to me. Unfortunately, ShB really watered it down for me, and I didn’t touch the job for the longest time. But when I started playing it again, I found that I enjoyed its ShB healing kit enough to sort of look past how boring and bland the cards had become. I doubt anything will change with regards to them for 6.0, but I hope that AST keeps a lot of the healing kit is has now. Even with the removal of Nocturnal Sect, I think it could still keep some mitigative aspects in the form of current Diurnal CU, CI, and Neutral Sect.
