    Hopefully a positive healing thread!

In the Tank Forum; I asked what content they loved to tank.
In the DPS Forum: I asked what they loved about their favorite dps class.

Yes there are problems that need to be addressed across classes and roles and a lot of negativity, but I'm hoping a thread like this can help balance that out with some smiles and positive memories and comments

Here I'll ask you this: What do you like about the role of Healer?

I only recently came back to the game about 6 weeks ago after my girlfriend started the free trial and loved the look and theme to everything. I stopped mid-HW from player burnout and depression, but I loved tanking on PLD/DRK and loved to heal on SCH/AST almost as much. I enjoyed the change of pace that came with keeping people upright versus the aggro and positional management(where to park the boss for the ease of everyone else) of tanking.

I remember healing brayflox so many times I wanted to tear my hair out because it was coinflip on if the tank would pull the last boss out of it's puke or not even after being told the puddles regen'd the boss, but still feeling a rush when we'd pull it off.

I have healed a few times on an alt that had SCH unlocked, but my new main hasn't healed yet. My gf is waiting a bit before trying her newly unlocked DRK and I promised I'd heal for her tanking on runs on AST since we unlocked all three HW jobs together.

Hmm... I'm having a much harder time with this question, maybe because it's much broader than your other two.

I like how healing is like playing a game of "reverse DPS" with the boss, and how (in my opinion) this has healers feel like they're interacting with the enemies more directly than any other role.

I like being able to "optimially" heal because I've always been in that mind that healing is a team effort with everyone pitching with mitigation. The prospect of healing itself never really stood out to me because frankly it's one-sided in this game. Being a support is what's more important to me. Doing more than just healing, which is why AST stood out to me, you feel like a support with the cards.

I like that we're not just healbots essentially.

As homogenized as the healers are atm, I still like the fantasy of the jobs. How SCH is the tactical military doctor, WHM a nature healer (debatable now), and AST being a fortune teller healer. Excited to see what Sage brings as well.

The thing that I like about healing is getting to be the one who supports my party in addition to doing my own contribution. I also really liked the Nature magic of whm and the time/gravity magic ast had. I liked how the job fantasies coincided with the lores so beautifully.

Its all gone now, and so I've quit healing until endwalker unless sage turns out to be another pure healer piece of crap.

I hate how we're barely registered as players who want to have fun, how our jobs are clones of each other, how the devs see no other way to make a new healer other than by cutting chunks out of the old ones, the endless lack of glamour beyond coats or robes, our concerns going unaddressed patch after patch, the devs refusing to listen to the ones who actually play the job since they don't and the plague of idiots refusing to learn that drag the rest of the healers down. I also hate how the devs are designing healers more for the dps players who want their parses than for the healers who play them and focusing on balance above fun

What do you like about the role of Healer?

Across ALL of my previous MMO experience, healer has always been my first choice before anything else. The idea of helping another player clicks so well & personally I almost always sucked with DPS and melee classes in those games My general perspective of being a healer stays relatively the same over the year, except I do develop something else for being a healer: "The power to choose who will live and who will die!! Mwahahahaha!!"

Additionally, I like the esoteric nature of general healing classes and how it fits to my own perk: I like to observe another player. I agree in general we also watch how the other's doing to some extent, but imho healers pay more attention to their teammate more often than any other roles.

    I'm excited for Sage

Scholar was a fun job for me because it really fit that tactician feel for me, I enjoyed how busy it was and how you have to keep an eye on various aspects of the battle all at once so that you can figure out the best way to approach the situation.

That being said, I think Scholar's lost that magic for me, not entirely because of the dps rotation, but because unlike older scholar you don't feel limited and don't have to consider how to best use your toolkit anymore.

I really hope that going forward they limit its healing potential while also making its current tools more powerful when used in the right situations, at least IMO.

Thank you for trying, however, the healer forum is a bit too infamously bitter for you to get the desired results.
    That being said.

I love how Scholar feels like I always have a trick up my sleeve to react to a situation. You can argue semantics, but too me that makes me feel like a tactical genius, and while there are only a few buttons to press, Scholar still has the best looking buttons in my opinion. I'm a sucker for magical glyph effects and i love the little twirl your character does when they cast Biolysis.

Magic and support are usually my cup of tea on games. Rarely if maybe a bow type job. In the healer aspect of things, I always love to feel that am always needed by friends and family for things. buffing them up to reach their job full potential, treating their status or healing their wounds and many more. Ast covered this alot until sb with its now same boring cards. the ability to regen or shield it had it all best ast for me always be stormblood. It has very nice elegant yet tatical play that give the keep on top of your A game feel. I love a class that is very busy to manage ast did excellent in that. It spells also is so beautiful and astral statis is a awesome lb love it when am in angelic outfit making it seem am actually flying.

    .
All the role forums seem to have a lot of bitterness right now, everyone wants their Jobs to be and feel better. We get that across all MMO's, but every now and then someone should try to hold up a light to remember the good of the game and class/roles for why we are here and want the game to be the best it could be.

I've always enjoyed playing the cleric/support type. In MMOs, single player games, and offline. Not because I like cure spamming (like the current iteration of healers tries so hard to encourage), but for a lot of reasons. I like having survivability. Keeping the team going. Rescuing a bad situation with a last second shield or pulling a disaster back from the brink. Being the soloing god that a lot of games allow healers to be when skilled/geared up well enough. Making use of my arsenal of abilities and determining exactly what's needed. Is the fighter going to die in the next ten seconds? Do I need to drop what I'm doing and fling a last second heal at him? Or will he also survive if I roast the ogre next to him this turn? Being able to multitask, to figure out what the best use of my time is in the moment, and to consistently need look ahead 10-15 seconds to plan out roughly what I need to do beyond just "X is where I'll be in my rotation". And yeah, that sweet dopamine rush when a game really gets this playstyle and puts a few Black Mage style mega blasts in there to reward someone who's really on top of their balancing act dance.

You know, not that healers in XIV are particularly designed like that now. But there was potential a few expansions ago, and I'm glad it was there.
