Having control over the life and death of a party.
Having control over the life and death of a party.
Greetings and salutations, adventurers.
Reminder that this combo was plausibly unavailable on account of 1. cure 3 being limited range 2. Divine seal (temperance before it was booted up 40 levels) would likely be on cooldown 3. POM absolutely would have been burned on dps and 4. Asylum would only cover maybe 3 players at the most on account of the adds, boss separation and the missiles dropping on everybody's head
As someone who played both whm and astro at this point, it was simultaniously a blast and a nightmare at the same time
Very much how I feel about AST too. Cards still break it up for me, but I am coming from a SCH background where my downtime is even more watered down so it's a step up.Hmm. Well, I’ve always liked playing healers in this game because I like balancing healing and damage-dealing. When I first started playing healers, we still had OG Cleric Stance. Since it swapped your MND and INT stat, it required some thought and proper juggling to ensure that you could both keep your party alive and deal a decent amount of damage. I kind of miss it, to be honest.
My favorite healer has always been AST. I enjoyed its hybrid nature, even if it was a burden on the job itself, and I loved the card system. Even the animations were attractive to me. Unfortunately, ShB really watered it down for me, and I didn’t touch the job for the longest time. But when I started playing it again, I found that I enjoyed its ShB healing kit enough to sort of look past how boring and bland the cards had become. I doubt anything will change with regards to them for 6.0, but I hope that AST keeps a lot of the healing kit is has now. Even with the removal of Nocturnal Sect, I think it could still keep some mitigative aspects in the form of current Diurnal CU, CI, and Neutral Sect.
But the healing toolkit is something I will praise and I think if Diurnal keeps what mitigation it has the loss of Nocturnal will be less painful because although they're shields, it's not enough to make AST a "shield healer".
SCH's healing can be enjoyable to use when it's pushed too as I have had my moments, but after learning Titan Savage on AST I swapped to SCH to see what it was like there and found it easier and less interesting and swapped back to AST for subsequent clears. I like juggling I guess.
I love SCH as my main healer. I don't care about Selene and Eos, I just bring whichever I feel. SCH has 'heal and forget' attitude, call me lazy but in between excogitation and all the fairy spells, instant AOE spells and fey union, I feel so OP. My Art of War is the highest instant AOE DPS in the game. My combo broil 3 and ruin 2 will kill the boss faster. It's a healer class that is designed to dps more than any other healer classes. Maybe sage, but I don't know yet.
I like that 9/10 times I can drag a group of bad players across the finish line, it’s possible with DPS and Tank roles, but not as often or effective as with the Healer role.
I'm your everyday below-average non-main-healer player, but from what I've seen, I enjoy AST and WHM much more than SCH. At least during the iffy phase of mid-40s (with harder hitting trash mobs) and pre-Excog 50s, I found SCH to be a major pain to play (during trash mob pulls). I will give SCH a fair shot with its 70-80 toolkit when my 3rd character goes through Shadowbringers with Trusts, though, as I love the fairy. AST has really nice spell animations and job gear, which was the main reason I picked it up on one of my characters. As a undredeemable clicker, staring at your skill bars to not forget your cards for too long is hectic, though xD. The biggest plus in healer life is arguably the instant-queues for whenever I need more poetics but not level another job or for leveling healers in general (while praying I don't get a dungeon with mechanics I am terrible at).
Just a proud bad-skilked player
I enjoy frivolously gambling with the lives of others knowing full well they're never in any actual danger hahaha.
Seriously though, I think what I like best about the role is how obvious it is when other roles are underperforming. It feels like playing a healer is a great chance to get familiar with other jobs' kits on-the-go.
Hopefully this isn't a terrible necropost considering this thread is still on the front page. I only started playing the game a few months ago and it's my first MMO, so that probably changes my perspective, but I switched to healer (first I leveled WHM, now I play AST) from DRG and I'm really glad I did! Honestly, I'm not very good at games, so I actually enjoy the simplicity of healing. As DRG I would die a lot because I'm bad at managing a rotation, keeping track of enemy cast bars, and seeing what's going on around me in melee range. Getting to stand back, spam Malefic, and wait for incoming damage is a lot easier on me. I know for a fact I don't play optimally but I still find it satisfying when I get the timing of my star placements right, have a good opportunity to use Collective Unconscious, or preparing for an upcoming tankbuster or groupwide damage. At first as WHM, I was too scared of burdening my cohealer to practice anything with 8 people, but now trials are my favorite part of AST! I like having the two different sects, it makes it feel easier to work with others, no matter what the meta says. Also, as fun as I find playing the role, the people I play with make it all the better. I feel friendlier even just about saying hi at the beginning as healer, perhaps because I have more obvious responsibility to my party, and when I mess up and apologize, most people have been very kind, patient, and willing to give me advice so I'm truly thankful!
I'm not happy at all with SHB healing VS SB or HW due to their massive power. but to be positive, E12S p1 (week 1 ofc) and TEA p1/p2 seems like the best ShB content that is balanced for ShB healing. you actually exhaust your resources and get to play your full kit, plan, think a bit about mana etc. E1S/E9S had surprisingly decent damage as well. the turn 2's and 3's were kinda meh for me, and e8s i was so bored outside of adds phase personally. titan p2 was a piece of cake. and im still mad about long heal gaols in a savage turn![]()
SHB really put a sour taste in my mouth about healing, especially the changes to AST and SCH, but I would have to say my favorite part of healing is being there to support my party in a more indirect way, keeping them alive and assisting with dps when I am able. It feels more flexible that always burning the mob down. Though, with SHB it feels like I've become a reverse DPS heal bot, so there's that.
