I find the alternative name of the Au Ra most curious when considering that dragons as we know them don't exist on the First due to them only arriving post-Sundering.

Honestly, I think the one of the mysteries I want clarified most in Endwalker is the origin of the races as there's nothing really conclusive about exactly when/how they came into being.

We name things on our Earth after dragons despite dragons not being things that exist so the same could probably be said about that world too. Komodo dragons, bearded dragons, and dragonflies are prime examples. In-universe, FFXIV dragonflies aren't related to dragons either but are also named after them.

The difference here is that, in this setting, dragons DO exist, but they are aliens who exist on only one planet out of fourteen. Folks on the other planets don't/shouldn't know about them. One could maybe imagine they have legends about giant lizards - but that's still a pretty big jump to the case of the Au Ra race, who have a superficial resemblance to dragons, being called Drahn, which is a draconic word for Dragon. Even if the first independently came up with dragon legends, would they have actual specific words from the Source's dragons?

It's possible that the First somehow learned about dragons. Perhaps the Ascians shared tales of them, or maybe a Pixie somehow found their way across the dimensional barrier (as Feo Ul does - though she needed our help to do so). But even if we assume that, that means that the Drahn were named that sometime after Dragons came to the Source. What was the race called before that?
