Why is there so much drama on the forums here?

When I told one of my friends I was on 14's forums they were shocked. Forums have such a negative stigma these days that they just assumed the forums were a cesspool full of vitriol and vile.
But I actually enjoy coming here. I check it a few times a day and rarely ever get into arguments. Funnily enough they were surprised enough by this that they installed 14 that week lol.

I meet all my friends on various kinds of forums and yet every time I mention GD to them they go "why are you still there"

The fourms pale in comparison to what I see on Twitter and Reddit some days. It feels like the fourms are mostly people just expressing frustration with things in the game, with the occasional troll and heckler.

I've been playing this game for a while now, and just found out about the forums. The ff14 subreddit is not to my taste. I can't find much good information about this game there, so I was curious about other options.

I was casually browsing through the most active forum (General Discussion, apparently) today to get a sense of its culture and frankly, I'm flabbergasted. A thread on Mordion Gaol turned into a debate on cancel culture. There are numerous posts on botting (why??) for some weird reason. And people are just derailing the thread on how Vieras still don't have headgear. It just became a thread of people flinging passive aggressive insults for 16 pages. Meanwhile the thread about Ultimate (sounds like some hardcore content) is 50 (jesus christ) pages of people fighting. There is maybe one legitimate argument every 20 posts in that thread.

Is this what the forums are usually like? Because if so I might just go back on the subreddit, as overflown with fanart as that sub is. At least it's relatively drama-free there.

The forums do not generally reflect the in game player base who mostly do not, at least on my world/fc participate in these garbage fire forums.

The real answer is trolls and fake accounts and little spoiled brats who complain about EVERYTHING. Probably because their parents don't love them or something.

My typical mindset, most players who are frequently on the forums have some bone to pick with the game, it's a place where discussions, debates, and critiques happen.

Thus we can have contentious content here.

This is an example of one of among the select few people in these forums who, by virtue of simply commenting on the forums, seems to create the drama you may be experiencing.

Notice how the majority of posts here are calm, collected, if a bit pationate? Then you get... this.

Normally, debates are very passionate, but do not go too far into players personalities (unless necessary), and VERY RARELY do they go so far as to insulting the player as a person, or their personal livelihood.
This guy, however, does. Don't interact much with them, it only serves to make one unreasonably angry.

These forums are notorious for toxicity and are not representative of the actual game community.

Cool. That makes sense. Do the developers look at the forums for feedback and bugs?

Yes, just not in general discussion There are specific forum sections for discussing ideas for improvements, wish list items, QoL ideas, etc. I've personally had two of my suggestions implemented from the UI forum over the years, so they really do listen.
