You are too kind, seriously (and I should probably learn from your example because my first inclination was to go for their throat). Their English don't show any kind of language barrier and I think it's just homophobic and highly intolerant language.

Eh... I've seen them out and about on the forums, it's clear that there's either a language barrier or a grammar barrier, but I assumed language barrier due to the way they speak in other posts? (It may be very, very rude of me to assume so, but I'd much rather assume that than assume ill intent, maybe I'm naive like that ahah...)

I dislike when people in this game give you so much trouble and say how they feel bad for you for skipping the story or say all these mean things.

Feeling bad for someone isn't an insult. They are telling you you're missing out but you already know that since you're the one doing the skipping, so why would it come across as mean?

It's insulting to voluntarily do something genuinely harmless because you know it's how you'd enjoy the game best and you're being pitied or berated for it

Not liking the story is OKAY, and not playing the game for the story is OKAY. The majority of my time spent (as of now 200 days, 14 hours) on this character is spent doing other things, glamour, killing time, AFK, etc.. I don't even have any of my crafters leveled, nor do I have my BLU leveled, and I still find things to do, and enjoy!

I'm sorry people, but if someone thinks the story is boring during ARR, the next 100+ hours isn't going to necessarily change that opinion. It will only serve to burn a player out of the game. With the new game+ or through an alt, if a player chooses to do so they can always go back at anytime and experience the story again (or for the first time)! While enjoying the full breadth the game can offer.

I don't really mind if people want to skip the story entirely. Similarly, for every other preference like following the story fully and considering a crucial part of the game. People must do what feels like the correct thing for them, each of us is an individual and each of us has different reasons for doing things that most likely differ as much as our individual characters.

However, what I really doubt is that this (rather passionate community as whole) will disparage anyone who chooses to skip the story. For each troll post about skipping the story that expresses "woe is me, you are all horrible and want to force me to watch cutscenes" there are hundreds of posts that say "you do you". There may be individuals of course that do that, but I don't believe they represent the entire community.

Having said that, the quality of a post is in its details. Someone who claims fervently "the story is XYZ" is completely different from someone who says "I found/believe that the story is XYZ". While the former is an attempt to attach universal objective value to a subjective matter, the latter rather enforces that each of us has individual preferences, likes and dislikes. I suppose that also could be the difference between a troll post that is intentionally rude and attempts to stir flames (like the OP) and an honest attempt at discussion over something like this game's story.

No.. I have prior experience. Yes, I will bring it up yet again, apparently I had an "imaginary friend", "the game wasn't for me".. When I made a serious discussion thread about ARR (prior to pruning).

"The game isn't for you", "go play WoW", etc. are constants if a player chooses to dislike the story, and be public about it.

Oh but it very much happens, you can't mention that you skip the story anywhere not private without being snubbed sometimes by the majority of people replying to you. Every single time I ever mentioned I don't care about the story, on reddit, in the NN, in party chat, one or more people ALWAYS had something to say about it and of course seen many instances of this happening to other people.

Hell I even got dogpiled in my NN once for telling a sprout who didn't care much about the story and asked if it was alright to skip it that he won't lose much by skipping it because I was "trying to ruin the game for them" or some stupid shit like this.

It baffles me. You'd think the community would be more welcoming, but no "go play something else"... like, what? This is a themepark MMO there is so much more game for players to do and experience. Not liking the story doesn't mean a person won't like the game, and for someone to just tell players to "go play something" else needlessly discourages players from potentially enjoying this game.

Not to mention there's always a good chance the people that would skip the story to get to the real game could get hooked by Shadowbringers and go back through NG+ or an alt for more context. That exact thing is happening to a youtuber thanks to Shadowbringers.

Just because you don't like the story when you're leveling doesn't mean you'll never like the story, and it certainly doesn't mean you won't enjoy the game.
