Why is there so much drama on the forums here?

In just about almost 15 years of MMO forum posting, I can say honestly that this is on par with how it usually is. I would say actually that this is just a tad better.
You may be wondering why. Usually MMOs get the bright idea to let certain volunteer players help co-manage the forum, which inevitably leads to those said players going on power trips and banning anyone who disagrees with them. Its always that + the one player who seemingly always responds to every single post defending the company no matter how bad the situation-so much so, that you often find yourself wondering if the person even plays the game, because they truly seem to just lurk the forum the entire day every single day.

Both of these scenarios I don't see here, so that's quite nice.
As for the rest though yah, that's normal. It's like that everywhere though really. Anywhere that isnt real life, because we all know how IRL arguments go. They start and end pretty fast-usually with one going down town and the other in an ambulance. This is why we take to the internet instead. Much cheaper/no need for healthcare insurance.

Youd be hard pressed to find any forum that isnt contentious, its literally what forums are for. This aint a Glee club

I'm not so sure forums are for getting into pages-long fighting that lack any substantive point, but maybe that's what the traditional forums are like. At least in the video game subreddits I've been in there is rarely this much drama. Not looking for a safe space, just looking to avoid lunatics and discuss the game normally.

XIV is a mostly good game, so its few flaws stand out all the more. People want those flaws to be addressed so it can be that much closer to a perfect MMO.

But yeah, the official forums are prone to having a lot of complaint threads simply because it's viewed as the best place for getting such topics noticed.

I'm actually not so sure, chief. The temperature in that Ultimate thread was rather high.

I cannot speak for others but coming from WoW, a game which has abandoned everything for the sake of performance and high end content and treats casuals with disdain, I can see why many people would strongly defend their game from becoming like WoW due to certain constant high end push for more high end which often comes at the expense of casual content.

Also it doesnt help that the person who made that thread is a blatant low quality troll that uses bad faith "high end vs casual" posts to get people fighting :P


Edit: Though like someone else said, the state of the forum is far better than usual mmorpg official forums, if you go to the WoW forums rn they are way way waaaaay worse

Welcome to gaming forums for mmos. They're usually like this and many are far far worse.

Cool. I suppose people are just animated in their debates. Still, it's very different from any game subreddit I've been in.

Subreddits tend to be quite different due to how moderation in fan generated communities is often very unlike how it's done on official platforms. The ability to downvote also makes it easier for people to silently shoot down what is obviously a very stupid or offensive post, or a troll.

Haha, I've never had an IRL argument go that bad. Heated occasionally but never a fistfight.

Perhaps its just selective thinking? Ive ran into like one or two instances of pure caustic behavior but most of the time its debates from passion. The forums arent that bad to be attacked discussing the game so long as your mature and prepare for inevitable disagreement which is fine we are all human

Interesting observation about the ability to downvote. I noticed there's only the ability to upvote here, and any thread seems to get bumped to the top by just replying. Doesn't seem to be sorted by amount of likes in any way.
