It is still subjective. I mentioned nothing about law, simply rules. Subjective rules do nothing to help correct actions (particularly when they don't tell you want you did to violate said rules) and only open the door to abusing said rules.Except the GM must also find it offensive. So if they do, you're busted. Thems the rules. It's not law, it's what you agree to when you sign up for the game. It doesn't even have to be fair. It's their rules. If you don't like it, go play something else. That's all you can do.
Do you really need someone hovering over your shoulder, telling you what is and is not okay to say? If you can only avoid breaking the rules by having someone proofread what you're saying, you really need to take a step back and learn how to be more mindful.
I feel like people who need the rules clearly defined for them just want to be an ass while avoiding the ban hammer. Can't you just be civil with people? Is that too much to ask?
No but when I make a mistake I like to be informed of what the mistake was so I can correct it. Just being told I made a mistake, does nothing to help me correct it.Do you really need someone hovering over your shoulder, telling you what is and is not okay to say? In that case, would you classify the s word as swearing, and thus against the ToS?
"Stand in the ashes of a trillion dead souls and ask the ghosts if honor matters."
"The silence is your answer."
It's always hilarious when people are like why did I end up in gaol, and end up with a ban?
Goes to show some people think their grey-area behavior is okay 24/7 and finally get caught with their pants down.
Just like the people who curse in-game and then say stupid things like "turn on your profanity filter"
It's all to prevent witch hunting, you know exactly why you've been gaoled. Just like the WHM Holy spammer in Limsa, the toxic streamers who intimidate people on their stream and not in-game.
ToS allows them to do whatever they want to act accordingly.
I must be imagining that big header that says "3.3 Profanity and Offensive Language" then, huh?
I assume you’re referring to one or two uses of the s word with an added e in it. To that I would say that it doesn’t matter if they break their terms of service in the MSQ. It’s their terms.
As for your question I don’t know what specifically is in the TOS but I think we’re being pedantic anyway. Why do you feel the need to be offensive and use offensive language in a video game? Because you got away with it in WoW? I don’t really understand.
In fact I don’t get cursing full stop. Seems like an anger management issue in most cases. There’s always a better word to use.
As I see it there's often a concerning lack of context when it comes to profanity. Some of the kindest people I've known swore like sailors - and growing up in a port town, some of them were practically sailors.
It'd be nice if more of a distinction were made between swearing at someone and swearing around someone. Especially when a profanity filter exists and characters within the game world swear quite a bit themselves...
What gets some people is the profanity filter is just a client-setting only, what you actually type is in the logs for the GMs to see. Doesn't matter if it's banter to buddies in a linkshell, do you know everyone in it? So you can play the context card all you want, the fact is you written your history on the servers.
Which is hypercritical and inconsistent. Hence my point. Your entire argument in this thread hinges on everyone following the rules... except, apparently, the very people who are supposed to enforce them. They can absolutely break their own ToS, but it makes the look foolish doing so.I assume you’re referring to one or two uses of the s word with an added e in it. To that I would say that it doesn’t matter if they break their terms of service in the MSQ. It’s their terms.

I like how you immediately jump to WoW, assuming I even play it. Which I don't. Perhaps I just don't see certain words as offensive. Frankly, I don't. That doesn't mean I'll "curse like a sailor" but I've always found the notion of taking offense because someone dropped the s or b words silly.
But yes, swear words are always indicative of anger management issues. You really do fancy giant leaps in logic and baseless assumptions, don't you?
