So if you're afraid you said something that crossed the line that could have offended someone, and upset that you got sent to gaol so you're going to be more careful from now on, doesn't that mean that the gaol served its purpose?

Edit: Another tip to not get thrown in gaol is to not defend yourself. It's a little messed up but I know of people who got thrown in gaol because they fought back. If a GM sees a report and goes into the logs and sees two people cussing each other out, it's not a good look for either one of them.

In the instances where someone didn't like me and kept swearing and telling everyone to report me, I just stay silent since their report is only going to look bad for them. I don't care enough to defend myself against random people on the internet who aren't worth my time who I'm never going to see again and it's a shame a lot of people take internet drama personally.

thats an "American law" thing not a "video game whose ToS says they can ban you for any reason or no reason at all and you agreed to that when you signed up to make an account" thing.

As someone who has been reported doing things said, do not log out in jail. Normally how it works is the GM will port you out and then you can log out and do your time. If you log out in jail it can cause issues where you have to place a ticket to be removed. A GM explained this to me before my 3 days suspension. Also do ask why you got in trouble, just take what they say and leave sometimes you will get lucky and the GM will still put a strike on your account but it will be without jail time. Did not work for me since what I said was considered hateful, which it was. It was a silly, but still I could see how it could be taken as hateful. I have learned to just not joke around with strangers as I do with my friends. I treat everyone in game like my grandma.

You can't fix what got in in trouble if they don't tell you what it is that you did. Saying "you said something bad" does not help. You need to know what you said that was bad. This is why

OP was banned for offensive language/ content, according to their first post. Most reasonable people knowing that the ToS forbids swearing at the very least so they'd probably stop swearing around strangers and if they're the kind of person who drops slurs or casually makes sexual references they'd stop that, too. its really not that hard.

Not only is it a concept hardly exclusive to specifically American law, as I am not an American and enjoy that little right, but the point isn't to literally make this into a court trial. It's about the attitude. The mentality behind it. I don't say "innocent until proven guilty" because the OP is an assumed criminal going into presumed jail (though let me tell you, people do often assume guilt of even real-life criminals), no, I say it because by refusing to even hear the guy out you essentially transform his earnest attempt to both be a better person and to give feedback to SE into a personal attack against his character.

Listen, I'm aware the OP has a tendency to put his foot in his mouth, but I can't really see any deliberate malicious intent going on here. The dude's just kinda clumsy with words and has a few misguided views; hardly a reason to organise a shame parade, you dig?

That doesn't actually solve the issue. Did he swear, was it something else? Etc. You cannot hope to fix something when you are not told what it is. Not to mention the number of things I see happening every single day that violates the ToS with no punishments. This is basic discipline stuff.

Yeah it's best to talk as little as possible in pugs or trade chat. There are tons of little bitches in this game that will report you just because they can and have nothing better to do.

Like, seriously people, are you listening to yourselves? Are responses like this really good examples of what model behaviour should be? If this is how people who don't get banned act, don't you think that would actually encourage people to become more toxic instead of less?

God, I don't even doubt the fact OP probably did something to deserve it (not that I can check this) but these responses are ridiculous.

Why are we defending corporations and system blindly out of obligation, again? Are we just going to assume that a person in authority is always correct, no matter the circumstance? History has had plenty of tyrants with authorities, so I'm less sure about this than you. And yes, this is a virtual videogame with cat and bunnygirls running around; it doesn't carry nearly the weight or import of an authoritarian and suppressive government. That doesn't change the fact the underlying mentality here is the same.

Are you all against the concepts of a state-appointed lawyer, by any chance? For people to have the right to defend themselves? Because responses in this thread really give me a lot of "shoot first, don't ask questions" vibes, gonna be real.
Refreshing to see such healthy perspectives in today's day and age where people seem to have taken the stance of guilty until proven innocent instead of looking at something from different angles. Much easier to meme or outright harass someone else without having to think critically.

Being reported =/= being put in gaol/disciplined. If you got busted that's because the GM ruled in favour of the person reporting you. There's no doubt lots of reports get binned because they're based on nothing (like "I asked for loot and someone else rolled on it and got it instead! >:C"), but if you get in trouble then you deserved it.

If you're incapable of speaking to others without possibly breaking ToS, that's a you problem, mate.
