A good example is a twitter user who said she didn't want to work with bi people in her "industry". I'm not going to say what it is, because that wouldn't be appropriate here, but let's just say she felt that the LGBT side of the "industry" wasn't clean. She never said that she hated gays, but worded it incorrectly. By the next night the news came that she ended her life, because everyone misunderstood her, and she thought her career was over. There was no attempt by most to understand her when she apologized, and tried to correct what she said. People already had the homophobic angle stuck in their minds.

I'm trying to say this as safe for work as possible, because despite the vulgarity of her profession, it is actually one of the best examples of toxicity in cancel culture. Cancel culture complaints are absolutely not just a disregard for consequences. This woman was genuinely sorry like I am, and wanted to correct what she said. She had perfectly just concerns, and wonderful intentions. Most people do not deserve to be put through the wringer like this.
