Oh cool, when/where did he say that? I was under the impression they hadn't responded to anything related to it after their initial statement so I must have missed that.

'Naoki Yoshida, producer and director: We have received feedback which of course includes players disappointed by the gender-locked (that being said, it wasn’t like I went in and intentionally locked these).
However, as mentioned during our Fan Festivals and via the [Letter from the Producer] streams, adding a new race is an incredibly massive undertaking, which affects all subsequent patches. After a huge amount of deliberation, we decided to implement the highly requested Viera, and a beast-like race the dev team wanted to implement, which was the Hrothgar.
I am aware of the desire to include a different gender of each of these races, but I’m afraid this feedback is not something we can easily incorporate. We are doing our best, but… that’s about all I can say now. I truly hope that everyone can understand.'
Which to me readds as 'we wont say anything now, please wait for fanfests to get confirmation or assume they're not coming', so I wont hold my breath but id wait till the next fanfest
Cheers! I hadn't seen thathttps://massivelyop.com/2020/04/07/o...d-yusuke-mogi/

Yes it's certainly.. ambiguous. They got burned a few times with the FC summoning and egi-glamour that fell through (maybe?) so they might not want to say one way or the other until something is basically confirmed, which is smart I suppose.
Yeah they arent gonna say' we are working on implementign male viera and female hrotgar' for then there to be a reason why they cant release them, since it would be percieved as a huge lie and recive massive amountso f backlash by the playerbase. Even then, if they are adding them it would be most logical to reseve the surprise for the next fanfest, probably use a male viera for the reaper class (assuming both are coming) and then have a massive amount of hype closer to release. I must admit although it does make sense not to say anything, I feel like the devs could certainly be more transparent, and if the awnser is a hard no it would not only make the most sense but I'd higly appreciate it if they could come out and say 'No male viera at 6.0, no current plans' so we can put this to rest, we have about 3 months to wait now :').
Making one model with one set of armor requires all but a small fraction of work that goes into making a fully playable and module with armor model.FFXI was a very different game with a very different community on a very different time when things like forums (or the internet in general) werent nearly as active as they are now. If they released NPCS of the missing genders without making them playable, there would probably be even more outrage than in 5.0's announcement, which is quite likely the biggest outrage in the game's history since 1.0 released as far as I'm concerned, so if they cant add them I truly expect them to not add an NPC with their models
Having a NPC would be something and I would be all for it.
I mean, they did outright say Viera and Hrothgar would see updates and all this time we got nada, which is also frustrating. A hard yes or no doesn't really mean much when things come up and throw a wrench in the works and they just stop communicating.Yeah they arent gonna say' we are working on implementign male viera and female hrotgar' for then there to be a reason why they cant release them, since it would be percieved as a huge lie and recive massive amountso f backlash by the playerbase. So it's probably wise they keep their mouths shut until they can actually deliver. :')
