FFXIV kinda IS a XI remake... it has like 90% of the enemy models from XI. It has the same focus on great cutscenes, and the same tendency to introduce complex side content that becomes irrelevant and abandoned a year later.
It's definitely far too confusing, and that's one of the things that needs fixing about Final Fantasy XI. I really liked and miss many things about PlayOnline. I feel like it could have become Square Enix's version of the Steam storefront. But it ended up becoming sectioned off and not further connected to the greater Square Enix online space. I really regret what could have been. The biggest problem I see with XI is getting started. The way you set up an account, install it and log in isn't so much archaic, as it's just bad. The interface is poor even for it's time.
They should make the FFXIV launcher into the SE launcher and let people install XIV, XI and maybe even DQX (like that would ever happen) right from the launcher.
Square Enix need a more cohesive online unity where all their online content is interconnected and easily accessible without confusion.
Part of me wishes they would relaunch their online store as an all new version of PlayOnline, something similar to Steam that allows for easy login to Square Enix games like XI and XIV with no complications or troubles.
Really just another version of the same monsters that have been in the FF series forever.
Also just typical FF.It has the same focus on great cutscenes,
That's just typical mmo.and the same tendency to introduce complex side content that becomes irrelevant and abandoned a year later.

I wouldn't mind seeing a remake somewhere down the line as a single player game to keep the story around for people to enjoy. I remember it being more than passable but it has been a really really long time so it might just be nostalgia.
No surprise. It was stuck in 3rd party, Nexon, development limbo.
I could picture it working pretty well like that. Character creator, choose your voice, and then go through the storylines. Though they'd probably have to add an overarching plot, make the trusts (at least some of them) into actual party members, and prevent you from going to some areas before story unlocks them. Would be a different beast than the MMO tbh, but the story if done right could be easily ripped from the MMO.

I'm interested in playing FF11 for the story, but not enough to slog through a game that grindy, and pay both monthly and for each expac.
I know right. Yoshi P did mention PUP is a contender for a limited job but seeing as Blu may become a full job (Strong maybe) then we may see an end to limited jobs as it just didn’t go over well. Or maybe just for BLU since it’s so popular in the franchise. PUP is unique and quirky. That’s why it was so adored in FFXI by many. Just not as popular as BLU. Guess we will see. I’d play it even if it was limited.
