FFXIV kinda IS a XI remake... it has like 90% of the enemy models from XI. It has the same focus on great cutscenes, and the same tendency to introduce complex side content that becomes irrelevant and abandoned a year later.

Really just another version of the same monsters that have been in the FF series forever.
Also just typical FF.It has the same focus on great cutscenes,
That's just typical mmo.and the same tendency to introduce complex side content that becomes irrelevant and abandoned a year later.

What content lasted a year in FFXI? And I cannot think of any content in ffxi that became irrelevant in a year. Sky still had best in slot gear, 8yrs after it released.
My Guild right until Abysea launched had 2 nights dedicated to content released in expansion 1, did weekly rotations of content released in expansions 1/2/3/4, camped rare mobs from all expansions, Did Salvage/Assault in lower man group. Ran instanced boss fights from 4 expansions. Pretty much everything in ffxi lasted for 5+yrs. Outside the fact both had good Stories FFXI was the polar opposite of ffxiv in design mentality. Was all about longevity, content not replacing content, Guilds were the center point of endgame, really complex systems, really strong economy (money bought power in ffxi not just glamour), unique jobs, dangerous world, unique stats/huge amounts of horizontal growth, no level increases. Outside some character models there is nothing in ffxiv that is really like ffxi. Even Eureka which people say is like ffxi is closest to dumbed down Abysea which is what drastically changed ffxi and what killed off the majority of guilds in the games.
