Some free mobile games are also really generous with freemium currency and benefit from a very large F2P playerbase too because of it. One of the regular ones I play, Tales of the Rays (JP only), gives 10 diamonds (freemium) daily for doing your daily quests. You get 4 more for each stage of a new event/chapter, plus more for logging in for a full week. A 10x pull is 200 dia and just gets you skills or Mirrage Artes, characters you unlock just from finishing chapters/events (though pulling a 5* or a Mystic Arte unlocks them instantly). It's very common to end up with around 400-600 dia by the end of every new chapter/event, and multiple (around 10) event tickets that let you pull a single from the banner for free for each ticket spent. Helps that the game plays like a traditional Tales game, and they have over 170 playable characters in it (including original characters and characters never before playable).

I uhh...got addicted to mobile gaming a bit because of that one.

But it's not like Nexon was gonna make FF11 into a freemium game, right?
Though after SQEX greenlit All The Bravest I'm never sure what to expect.

I think if they want to make a mobile ff game. It should be its own thing specifically designed to work with the platform. I honestly think it could work, but they should NOT adapt any mmo to mobile. The genre and platform do not mix at all.
    Oh my gooood you're right.
Which is a shame because, having more time to think about it (and doing some research) ... I wouldn't count on a single player version ever being released if only because it sounds like an impossible business case to make.
That game handles basically everything server side so it would have to be built from the ground up to be entirely local, and from what I understand that's why it took forever just to get private servers.

    Haha
Yeah, SINoALICE has done a lot to show me how the mobile MMO market has changed its shape.

And Crystal Chronicles has me hungry for a good* CO-OP FF game.
(*CC is a good game but yikes that multiplayer)

Sucks, but I'm glad that at least Nexon has nothing to do with the game anymore.

I wanted a single player console/PC version anyway. So hope is back on the table!

Sad to hear about this. Been recently replaying FFXI and miss the gameplay and world terribly, especially before the level cap raised from 75. The game had it's flaws and probably in some ways was a little too time intensive of a sink to get through... but I think FFXIV went too far in the other direction to avoid FFXI's flaws. FFXI had a real, dangerous world to explore and actual dungeons you could get lost and killed in. The dungeons had puzzles to solve to get through and some bosses needed items to pop them. Everything was so complicated and intertwined you didn't just farm tomes for BiS gear and sit there until the next update. Heck the weather would actually influence your elemental spells. Weapons had different attributes for different monsters (lances being good against birds or smaller shields having a better block rate for example).

The single most important thing they did however though was at it's very core made it a game about communication and connecting with others, by making the game brutally punishing if you didn't. That naturally enforced people to have overall good behaviors and be helpful towards one another. You don't see that anymore at the same level FFXI had.

These are things I greatly missed and havent found elsewhere. At the same time, I don't know if I'd have the time I once did to dedicate to what would be needed for FFXI if re-released today. Clearly many do though because their subs keep spiking even to this day when new content is released. Sounds silly but I wouldn't be half surprised if the game outlasts FFXIV with a dedicated (hard)core base.
