    I think it's just a stylistic choice.

We may or may not have fought a holographic projection of Gaius, but the room in lore most certainly did not suddenly turn into a recreation of the conquest of Werlyt. Just as I doubt that at the end of 4.3, the interior of the Castrum suddenly turned into an autumnal Japanese garden.

If the recreation of Werlyt inside the Castrum happened in lore for real, then we effectively had introduced straight up holodeck technology into the setting, which has massive implications. I don't think that the G-Warrior training simulation from 5.3 counts, as I don't think that was an actual holodeck, but rather just the WoL sitting in the cockpit of the G-Warrior doing simulations but the G-Warrior is not actually moving and the landscape has not been altered or anything.

Considering Gaius saw it as well and was just as surprised, I'm going to assume that it was another Reality Marble moment.

Isn't the fight with Nael in the Binding Coil specifically at "the Holodecks"? And that illusion was fully visible to the characters.

Which is not to say it's in use every time this happens, but the technology exists and is there to be salvaged.

Yes, that fight was on The Holodecks

And later in Azys Lla when we fight the Warring Triad, the Extreme versions of the fight also take place in Holodeck Reality Augmentation simulators that are computers simulating fully powered Warring Triad versions.

I had been of the mindset that they had gone to Second Coil and gotten the holodeck tech there, and incorporated it into the weapons as a way to bring out the full extent of the oversoul's persona.

Interestingly, the Holodecks fight with Nael Deus Darnus takes place on a circular platform where you can't fall off, because the simulator has put up the laser grid deathwall to prevent you from exiting the bounds of the simulator. In Ruby Weapon, the augmentation to reality doesn't change the shape of the arena, but does introduced a death wall still.

From Emerald weapon we get the death wall, but the reality augmentation actually increases the size and shape of the arena to a full rectangle with more solid ground, rather than a circle. The minimap doesn't change at all to compensate that change either, which kind of threw me off the first few times I did the fight.
