The penalty is there to encourage you to not waste the time of other players. Especially if it's the tank or healer who leaves, the remaining players may be forced to wait tens of minutes before a replacement can be found, or alternatively queue for the duty again which also may take significant time (in addition to having to redo the duty from the beginning). It's only fair that the person who leaves is similarly inconvenienced.

If you wish to play with no regard to other players, I recommend picking up another installment of the Final Fantasy series. Except for XI and XIV they're all single player games, with all the freedom of schedule that entails.

I had a group wipe lastnight. Yes the healer was a little weak, but that's also one of the hardest in it's level range to heal. I pulled double at the start (to the wall there is four packs), splat. So, I start off slower. Do one pack, have things under control, DPS runs and pulls a second pack. I grab it. Healer does not keep up. WIPE.

Two packs was a wipe, so dps went and took a second pack anyway. Then started to insult the healer.

by insulting the healer, you mean asking them to use something else other than cure fricking 1 in bardam's mettle (in a snarky way, I admit)?
because that's all I did aside from listing the other healing skills whm has at that rank, including lilies, which you said don't exist at that level (because they do)
pulling the second pack was an accident, but at lvl 67 a white mage should use more than cure 1, which would make the accidental pull a non-issue

Just came out fresh from a 50/60/70 roulette which thrown me into... Snowcloak.
Who do I matched with? A sprout SAM, regular SMN, and a returner WAR who happened to be entering for his first time. I rolled in as a SCH.

Entire dungeon: single pulls, occasionally the WAR forgetting AoE and dodging AoEs.
It's fine. What's not fine?

90% of the time I don't see any of their Miasma nor Bio. And when they do cast it... nope, no Bane at all.
I'm even surprised he remembered to use Outburst vs 3+ mobs, still...
What's even more irritating?
I heard Physick sound effect.

HP drop below 80%? Physick spam to full.

I look up his search info... several other classes at their 40-60s, BLM at 80

Cure I usage past lv60 (arguably lv50) is like.. almost non-existent? Only 1% of time... even Regen'ing the tank while they're mid pulling are miles better than Cure I if they worry about not getting Cure II off (2s vs 1.5s cast time) as long as the WHM is huddling close to the tank all the time.
Seriously, if there's any newbies reading this, please understand that Freecure is a trap trait

You seem a bit too quick to assume they were just being rude. If the run was otherwise going well, it's more likely they were disconnected or forced offline by some emergency.

This. I had to bail on a dungeon once mid-run because I had to abruptly take someone to the hospital. And maybe it was rude, but no dungeon run is more important than someone's RL medical emergency.

I mean, I did do "/p Medical emergency; I have to bail to drive someone to the ER. Please kick me for 'offline' once the game notices I'm gone so you can get a replacement. Really sorry." and then hard-quit the game, so hopefully the folks in that run knew I hadn't just bounced on them for no reason. But if it'd been a worse medical situation, I genuinely don't know if I'd have necessarily taken the time to type that.

Who cares if there is an emergency or not? You wanna leave, go for it. There is already a penalty in place, no further punishment is necessary. You'll probably get a replacement. If not? Oh well. Not much that can be done about it. I also guarantee you many of the people who are having "emergencies" are lying, they just don't want to be rude.

WHM at 80? Made me think that WHM levels to 80 purely by MSQ roulette... that's kinda sus. (Sorry, just had to type that lmao)

I believe I’ve been surprised plenty of times already by meeting them in my quest to level all of my classes (they are ranging from manageable to nightmares to have). Ever since maxed out, I’ve been going back to healer role moreso than ever so I haven’t been seeing them in any content that only presents 1 healer spot... yet. Questionables are still common in raids.
I remember matched up with a Cure I & Medica II spammer in bunker. Didn’t even let my excog/earthly star/horoscope to proc nor my whispering dawn/asylum/celestial opposition/collective unconscious to do its ticks, it made me sad to the point I stopped healing altogether, only pitching in when I see they’re struggling with their dwindling 0-1500 MP left from overhealing. Can you imagine a WHM running out of MP with hardly anybody dying in the party? I knew something was wrong with this WHM when this happens as early as mid 2nd boss fight. Starting from that point till the end of the raid, I can count the number of Afflatus Solace/Rapture casts being less than the amount of fingers on my both hands. That is like...so much lilies wasted.

And don't get me started with how irritating the Cure I/Physick/Benefic sound effect is when its being spammed in anywhere lv50+.

There’s also some player that thinks “Lily” refers to “Afflatus Misery”, not Solace nor Rapture (yea, they do exist...). It’s really sad to see players enabling these bad habits. No wonder they are more likely to join with their friends.
