About the World Merge and Character Transfers (02/09/2012)

Just on a second note when I wanted to leave Besaid and all the friends who secretly told me how badly they did too but didn't want to start over they and I would be screwed over by server merges. wed basically have to stay in the same place and deal with more people. That merge system does nothing for people who -want- to leave. This is ideal because we -can- leave and start fresh and those who don't want to can tally up their friends and decide on one together

Spoken like someone that clearly thinks the 2 games are coded the same. ANd I am more than willing to bet not everyone thought the server merge in 11 was "perfect". You can't please everyone, its a game, deal with whats happening and adjust your plans accordingly.

Actualy that type of merge would work better in XIV since it wont have a chance to overpopulate end game HNM camps as mergers did in XI, seing as XIV engame is 90% instanced (10% stronghold rest is moogle/Ifrit).

I like SE as a game dev, but that doesnt force me to became a blind fanboy and agree with every decision they make, this merge system obviosly has flaws since alot of the community are now complaining and having worries about it and trough the forums we are voicing our opinion on the matter.

That is how I feel as well. The people I want to play with are playing and will be picking a server alongside me, the people that aren't playing currently most likely won't be back until 2.0 when they will be able to just create a new character and pick the new server we are at, and we will have level sync and power leveling to get them up to speed.

It might sting for people that have hundreds of acquaintances but that's just how life is. Chances are your absolute closest friends will be moving to the server you are no questions asked regardless whether or not their Linkshell is going to the same one as well or not (and why aren't you in the same Linkshell if you are such good friends, anyway?) You will have more opportunities to meet a much larger variety of strangers after the transfers than if it was just a straight up merge where a large amount of the population would be the same as before.

Amazing how ignorant some can be.
Personaly I never asked for server mergers, I'm happy how things are on my server atm, yet I'm stuck with an awful excuse for merger system.
All this merge will do is forcing people who have more then a handful of friends and one LS to choose between and loose friends and split groups.

And this feels like a giant money grabbing move from SE; "Cheapest way of merging servers with the least effort" sorta deal, cause face facts, less servers running = more money saved for SE.

I am ignorant because I am able to face the reality of whats happening as opposed to crying about something I have no way of changing? If you say so. I like that you throw the word ignorant around and then make a comment about how its a money move by SE. OF COURSE its a move to save money, if you hadn't noticed, the game still isn't doing all that well, and they need to save money wherever they can while they spend a boatload fixing it. I understand that not every single person asked for this, but they are doing this because a clear majority DID ask for it. I just don't see what the big deal is I guess. I mean, how hard is it to tell everyone on your linkshell that your picking server number 6, and that everyone should move there? It just seems like many are making it out to be much worse than it really is.

Nono, when Titan got merged into Phoenix and we peaked at 6-8k people at times and could barely load up zones let alone do anything for months at times due to huge Japanese and NA/EU playerbases hogging everything at all times of day..it was perfection.

Or instead of saving money on a simple one way system, have a World A + World B = World C system as default for people to pick, and THEN an option for freely choosing servers, so the small minority who don't like their current servers can have their way as well without hurting the larger communities.

Now tell me how that wouldnt be ideal for both your side and my side of the pancake?

Because if the server fills before all of your ls members choose the server then they are SOL. And do give the, "Well then they should log on as soon a choices are available." because guess what people have lives and jobs that don't let them sign on at SEs convienece.

But..but..the inactive people who'll be forced onto servers they didn't choose!

I'm not sure how your LS will do it but my guess is most LSs will vote between their members on what server to pick, but fact is that you can actualy have friends in game not part of the same LS as you, and thoose friends might have their own LS who made their own plans for a completely different server.
Now then your choice will be to either a) Stick with your LS friends, b) Stick with your other friends.
This can be further complicated by friends of friends, and their LSs, having multiple LSs etc, the list goes on.

Me simple telling my LS hey lets all move to server 5 isnt magicaly gonna have everyone agree there cause of the above scenario.
The needs of the many outweights the need of the few will then take effect, if 70% of my LS wants to move to server 6 and 30% want to move to server 5 then probably some friendsships will be split due to this.

Reality is sadly not as simple as theory makes this merge system look.
