However, Revenant's Toll housed the Doman refugees until we resolved the Doman issues in Stormblood, so its entirely there's already a residential area there built out, and we'd be taking over for the leaving refugees bringing life back to Revenant's Toll.

That's enough lore justification to make it possible, especially since Revenant's Toll is basically the base of operations for the Scions now.

People are still living in Mor Dhona. I really don't see how "corrupted aether" would come into play. And not being a city state doesn't seem like it would exclude you from living somewhere.
It just seems wasted to build up these locales, and then just never come back again except to grab your wonderous tales book.
While I'm sure sea of clouds or an underwater bubble would be a fine place for housing. It just doesn't have the same gravitas to me. We didn't build anything there, we didn't watch it grow from a tent city. theres no real attachment. They used resources to have a staggered growth for those two locations, it seems reasonable they would continue it to some extent.
Idyllshire even used to be a citystate before it was abandoned. It should already have some sort of housing ward lorewise, even if its currently in disrepair.

Probably not Crystarium because it is like a Mor Dhona; it is a gather place for the adventures on that Shard.
It only has the apartment wards.

The only place listed that has lore potential for a housing district (other than Ishgard, which we know we're getting) is Idyllshire since the new residents are trying to actively restore and build up that area.

The other areas have lore reasons for why a housing district wouldn't make sense. Rhalgr's Reach was merely a hiding place for the Resistance, taking advantage of the old monk training grounds that were abandoned when the monks were almost wiped out. Ala Mhigo's capital would make more sense for a housing district than Rhalgr's Reach. Mor Dhona, Crystarium and Eulmore are in territories still filled with considerable danger, which is why residents of those areas crowd within the city walls (assuming there's enough room for them).

It's easy to forget that Norvrandt is still heavily populated with sin eaters in lore and it will continue to be an ongoing problem to those who aren't aware of what's happening in the optional related side content. Having a housing district there would make no sense to players still going through the MSQ. At least Hingashi got a couple of brief mentions in MSQ before we went there and Shirogane's existence as a residential district for foreigners makes sense.

Crystarium Housing would be my only reason to 'give up' my large house and move back into a middle one (since every large there would be taken in seconds)

Players kept loudly asking for housing in Ishgard. They're getting housing in Ishgard.

Just the big tease at the 2018 NA FanFest keynote where YoshiP said players have been asking for housing in Ishgard but we'd have to restore it first before we can have it.

Well, completion of the Restoration will happen in 5.4 as long as players continue to participate. That was said during the last Live Letter.

I doubt very much they're going to fail to deliver. I never expected it to happen in 5.4, though. I had been expecting 5.5, but with the COVID situation messing with things it could end up next expac. I am confident we will be getting something, though.

I've played a game with housing in the snow, and by the end of January everyone is screaming - enough, bring the grass back. Year round snow is too depressing.


Revenant's Toll is too grey/purple. Sea of Clouds would have been so nice.

idylshire is supposed to be a abandon area but thanks to kobald and Rowena its decent area for trades and priceless relics of the Sharlyans. but Ultimately it is still a ruins and Mor dohna is the same case, the only housing that makes a lick of sense outside of the big 3 are Hingashi (Shirogane) Eulmore (dozens of islands and spires off the coast) Ishgard (clearly) Ala Mihgo and Sui-no-Sato with more villages underwater or near the Court of the Ruby Palace. I could add Doma but its too similar to Hingan aesthetics and would be a waste of a district
